Zahar: Hamas will accept Palestinian state on '67 borders
Jerusalem Post ^ | 5-11-11

Posted on 05/11/2011 5:18:49 AM PDT by SJackson

Senior official says Hamas will never recognize Israel, hopes that "next generation will liberate the land" if Palestinian state does not encompass all of Israel. Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar said on Wednesday Hamas would be willing to accept a state on 1967 borders.

Hamas would accept a Palestinian state "on any part of Palestine," he said in an interview with Maan, marking the first time Hamas publically stepped back from its goal of a Palestinian state "from the river to the sea."

At the same time, Zahar said that Hamas would not recognize Israel, because doing so would "cancel the right of the next generation to liberate the land." He added that recognition of Israel could lead to Palestinian refugees losing their right of return.

"What will be the fate of the five million Palestinians in the diaspora?" Zahar asked.

The Hamas leader said that his faction's unity deal with Fatah, which included maintaining a ceasefire with Israel is "part of the resistance, not a cancellation." He added that "a truce is not peace."

Zahar also said that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will not visit Gaza soon. One of the reasons, he said, is that he can not guarantee that "Israel will not send its infiltrators to shoot Abbas" or that some Palestinians may "come out and throw rocks at him."

Diaspora? The ragheads have never been dispersed, how stupid they are trying to play the victim.

There can be no reconciliation, no welding of the split, the crack in Palestinian unity. Gaza will always be a running sore.

Gaza exists because Europe allows it.

I’m sure Isreal will have something to say about that.

First off there shouldn’t be a Palestinian state. There was a Palestinian state and that was in Jordan if I recall.

Unfortunately for the Palestinians,Jordan doesn’t want them either.

Gaza is a part of Palestine. What's the problem?

You used that land to attack Israel 44 years ago, and your stated goal is to have that land given back so you can try again??

How’s about you get your butt kicked again, from where you stand, you lose another 10 miles of border, and then in 44 years we’ll let you have back what you have today?

Translation: We declared war on Israel before the ink was dry on UN Resolution 181. Since then we've lost each time we've fought them. Despite that, we'd like to have everything back, anyway.

To Hell with these people.

Israel should have restored to them the land they won fair and square when they were attacked. Gaza, Siani (spelling?) peninsula, Golan heights, entire west bank etc.

Not true. Palestine existed. It just wasn't Arab.

But it is true that there was no Palestine in 1967; so I see no problem giving the Arabs all of Palestine as it existed in 1967.

"Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea." Deuteronomy 11:24

It seems that the God of the Bible has other ideas about the size of Israel's territory. It will be interesting to see who gets their way in the end.

Israel should be allowed to expand out to the borders of the first mandate. The ruler of Jordan could continue as the Governor of Jordan.
