ATLANTA (AP) --- Newt Gingrich, the House speaker who led a national GOP resurgence in the 1990s before facing ethics questions and resigning, is running for president.
Gingrich's announcement, made on social networking websites Monday, came after months of public flirting with a bid. He enters a slow-to-form GOP presidential field that has left some Republicans craving more options as they search for a nominee strong enough to credibly challenge President Barack Obama.
The former Georgia congressman, well-known to most Republicans, brings to the race a years-in-the-making political machine with ties to early nominating states as well as a network of supporters and donors. But his personal baggage --- he's acknowledged marital infidelity and has had two divorces --- could hinder his chances of winning the party's presidential nomination more than a decade after leaving the House.
Still, he spoke confidently of wide support.

You're close. Here's what I think: Newt's an idea guy. He generates tons of ideas. Some of them are brilliant; some of them are terrible. What he's missing is the ability to tell the difference.
Newt may be that, but he isn’t very smart. He believes in man made global warming, and I know better so he isn’t smarter then me.
Newt stopped being a conservative a long time ago. I ALWAYS change the TV or radio station if he comes on the air, and I mean ALWAYS.
I was just thinking that we can’t win in 2012 without with the hardcore radical socialist vote. :)
Sheesh you guys are slow... someone was supposed to ping in with, “and I bet they were fig-Newt-ons!”
With any degree of luck Gingrich will find out early that he is as popular as a presidential candidate is as would be a spitting cobra.
As Alfie Doolittle said, "Where'd you get that idea Guv'nor?"
Georgia does not have political party registration. If any Democrat does not desire to vote for his highness, The Obama, and wishes to sabotage the Republican Election they can ask for a Republican ballot. I believe there are 13 states that would allow Democrats to vote in a Republican Primary either because they have no party registration or because they allow voting day registration.
The 13 States are: Georgia, Michigan, Virginia, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
You must note that in Georgia it is a forgone conclusion that it will go to the Republican in the General election so any Democrat Primary vote will count for nothing, freeing all Democrats to crossover to vote for the favorite RINO Republican. We must all pray for rain and snow to keep the Dims at home for the Primary Election.
G is a fraud
an opportunist at best!
@#$%&% he is a jerk!
CONTRACT WITH AMERICA?
PEDDLE YOUR GOODS SOME WHERE ELSE!
FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
Of course, after that, you can't call him a RINO...he's a CINO, though.
Nope. No way in h*ll Am I voting for Newt.
His first day in office, some liberal ho will be sent in to flash her thong, and Youtube will have the first Presidential Sex Tape out by the end of the evening.
Sometimes I think that most of FR has the opposite prioritization.
My GOD! It's Jiminy Glick!
Cheers!
Right. Like his "debate" with John Kerry about global warming. That was a real barn-burner.
I think Gingrich is a brilliant man and historian. I do believe he took such a beating and demonetization by Clinton during his time as SoH, without throwing punches back, that he has no chance in hell of winning. Politically, Clinton beat him to a pulp after Gingrich’s Contract With America. And, the fact over the last few years, as a pundit, he has swerved to the middle on several issues, he isn’t electable. He should have fought when it counted back in the 90’s. Sorry Newt, way too many bruises and baggage. As far as everyone saying they won’t vote for Romney, I know a lot of that has to do with him being a Mormon, but I’d rather have a Mormon who stands by his beliefs and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ than Obama, who lies out his ass about his “Christian” religion. But still, Romney is too much of a centrist for me. But anyone is better than Obama, and I’ll vote for whomever is running against him, period.
Newt, you’re a fantastic idea guy and I really admire you for that. But you’ll never be POTUS. Get over it already. Go teach or join a think tank. You’ll be much more appreciated.
:-)
Clinton took his money? What a thief!
As far as everyone saying they wont vote for Romney, I know a lot of that has to do with him being a Mormon...
Right, we oppose Romney because he's a Mormon. [rolls eyes]
