Was the passenger trying to get out of the plane or trying to get in? The link is unclear.

No, they just installed a ‘Cooper Lock’. It’s basically a free pivoting piece of metal that blocks the airstair from opening when in the slipstream.

Makes sense that it was a big burly passenger. The rows with the doors are the most roomy.

Yeah, sounds a bit like a scene out of a Bond movie featuring Richard Kiel.

Continental Flight No. 546 made an emergency landing in St. Louis after a tall, burly passenger reportedly tried to open a door in flight, said Sara Olkon, a former Tribune reporter. Responding to screams from a flight attendant, the man was reportedly accosted by an air marshal on board. Why did the man respond to screams from the flight attendant, and why was she screaming?

That sucks when the wacko is a tall, burly guy. Who wants to fight that. It also isn’t often that the word accosted is used to describe a law enforcement officer doing his job.

There really should be a way to let them get out if they want to. A simple airlock would do the trick!
To: ebshumidors
You’re right. I stand corrected.

Since when is stopping a lunatic from killing people “accosting”?
At least they didn’t call him a victim.

Since when is stopping a lunatic from killing people "accosting"?Obviously reporters are idiots and can't write to save their lives, but the lunatic wasn't going to kill anyone that way. At best, he might manage to break something on the door handle, or give himself a hernia.

"How did DB Cooper make his jump? Did they depressurize the cabin?"He went out a rear door, not an emergency door.
