To be fair, a lot of people who like the politics in the book have panned it as being boring as all get out for decades.

The critics aren't attacking the plot of the story (although since most of them are statists it has to grate on them), just the ponderous way Rand delivered it. That's a fair cop.

Well that pretty much makes my decision. I was going to drive in to St. Louis to see it but if there is no part II coming...forget it.

You obviously didn’t read the article. The people aren’t making it a success. Despite expanding to 425 screens, attendance dropped off 47%. It’s done, it’s flopped, the plan to expand to 1,000 screens has been abandoned. It’s dead Jim.

I saw the film and thought it would have been better as a mini series on TV. I think it tried to cover too much ground. I loved the book. I’ve enjoyed other Ayn Rand books. But the film was disappointing.

You weren’t riveted to your seat as Burl Ives sang “Frodo of the nine fingers” to cheesy closeups of big hobbit eyes? I’m shocked to hear the height of film making disparaged in this manner. /s

The simple fact that they were talking about making 3 a musical insured I wouldn’t watch 1.

Or “History of the World, Pt1” Mel Brooks never did Pt2.

Yes he did. History of the World Part 2 is one of the only movies I've ever walked out on after only about 10 minutes.

Agreed.
Love the underlying ideas, the book was simply badly written. desperate need of an editor to get the work down to 250-400 but the author’s ego was too big.
Still, to have it be a vital touchstone for debate 50 years on is pretty good for a ‘bestselling’ novel.

Did you see it? Apparently you haven’t, with the small budget they had, it was well done. I’ve asked this questions to others on the website, but got no response. I wonder why.

...flagging box office returns for the film.

Flagging? Sh**, the nearest theater to me showing it is 200 miles up the road in Richmond. What the hell did he expect?

Just because reviewers hate a movie doesn’t mean people won’t watch it. Just look at anything by Michael Bay.

No kidding. Anyone who can get more than half-way through Galt’s speech alone without realizing that this woman had an ago the size of Texas, shouldn’t be reading it in the first place.

This is sure to get me in trouble, but over the years I noticed that Rand and Objectivism in general seems to be extremely attractive to social misfits. I’ve yet to see a well adjusted individual identity with Rand.

A bad movie on an excellent book, is still a B-A-D movie.

The movie "Dune" defines this concept. Worst film ever made based on a great book.
