WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) Consumer confidence recovered somewhat in April, though the impact of a spike in gasoline prices is still evident, according to data released Tuesday by the Conference Board.
The confidence index hit 65.4 in April, compared with an upwardly revised 63.8 in March. Thats still below the 72.0 reading of February, as gasoline prices nationally have approached $4 per gallon.
The increase came as consumers 12-month inflation expectations declined to 6.3% in April from 6.7% in March. In addition, consumer views about the present situation improved.

I see the confidence out there even in my own depressed locale. I still think people are nuts, I'm going the complete opposite direction and bolting the hatches shut.

Why would anyone feel more confident?

Guess all the EITC checks have started to arrive. Must be nice to ‘earn’ such a refund.

That sounds like some made up feel-good-ism creation.
Anyone who has been to the grocery or gas station KNOWS many prices are higher in April and they were in March.

I am confident...confident that we are being screwed with inflation that chips away at our stagnant earnings. FUBO.

What is this guy smoking?...
The Fed will be pleased to see that the further rise in gasoline prices towards $3.90 a gallon does not appear to have put another dent in US consumer confidence or added to households inflation expectations, wrote Paul Dales, senior U.S. economist with Capital Economics

Anyone who has been to the grocery or gas station KNOWS many prices are higher in April and they were in March Was there yesterday. The butcher was laying low, too.
You could hear the audible groans as people picked up the packages of ground chuck and tossed them back in the cooler.
And then the added insult of being one of the few people at the checkout lane actually paying for their food themselves while waiting on WIC forms to be filled out and extra transactions for the stuff the EBT cards won't cover.

Refund bounce? Gas prices are crushing us. I am confident the numbers are cooked.Read the article carefully and ignore the headline. The numbers are poor, but the slight uptick is blown out of proportion by the press, as usual. When you are near the bottom, the only way to go is up, and we are not doing that.
