Boston Mayor Thomas Menino KOs Soda, OKs Alcohol
Published April 10, 2011 | FoxNews.com
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has banned soda, sports drinks and sweetened ice teas from city property, according to a recent government press release.
In an attempt to reduce the citys rising obesity rates, Menino has banned all sugary drinks from city vending machines, cafeterias and concession stands, just one day after reaching an agreement with the Boston Red Sox that allows the team to sell mixed drinks at its ballpark.
I want to create a civic environment that makes the healthier choice the easier choice in peoples lives, whether its schools, work sites, or other places in the community," said Menino in the press release issued last week about the soda ban.

I will never understand what makes people such sheep that they meekly submit to this kind of fascism.
No concept of the slippery slope.
And this jerk mayor ought to be bitch slapped in public.
Local bottlers an vending machine companies need to pull their entire product from city property.
Not even sure this is legal for him to just declare such .
Costs of such crap keeps me from drinking sodas etc from the machines. Recycled dinosaur wizz from the tap in my bubba mug is my choice till its oh beer thirty at home.
Try and ban sweet tea here in Dixie and end up a decoration on the closest tree.
That was one of the first things he changed and since has gone Nanny all the way.
His current ban is totally selfish.
And what do you accomplish when you do that, other than to lower morale among your fellow Americans and make the youngest among them feel frightened and insecure?
Tell me, what do you accomplish?
You don't even make yourself feel better, for crying out loud!
And don't wonder when you stop getting invitations to barbeques. Don't wonder if you have the sneaking suspicion that some folks are rolling their eyes and laughing at you behind your back.
Acknowledging the ridiculous and dangerous proclivities of liberalism and that there's a problem to be fixed is one thing.
Saying that the nation we love is not still wonderful in many ways, so many that it's well-worth fighting for, makes you a killer of hope and a sapper of strength and courage.
Just sayin'.
Um, dontcha mean eyesore?
His next step will be to lure and hire airport patter-downers from Homeland Security to frisk all city employees and search their lunch bags eacj morning as they enter the front doors of their office buildings.

Oh I don’t know sticking my head in the sand really doesn’t appeal to me. The thought of hanging out with people happier to wear blinders and act like sheep isn’t particularly alluring either, even though they may make a mean beef brisket.
Actually I take that back. I’d be willing to lie to myself and others for a REALLY GOOD beef brisket.
This sounds like a joke but he is considering legislation regulating by law, how people in the city can wipe their butts.
No more than one TP ration, with no more than 4 squares.
Apparently, an attendant will ‘log you in’ and give you your ration of TP. You will be searched going in and comming out to ensure there is no hording.
Personal TP is banned from all city property and you are allowed to ‘go’ a maximum of three times in a day.
Also, it is illegal to wipe from behind. You must go in from the front because a commission found that this way is more ‘efficient’.
Anyone caught in possession of, or using ‘unauthorized’ TP will be prosecuted.
The Mayor has said that it is his duty as a public official to ensure people are wiping their butts correctly and in the most efficient way possible.
Also, he again insisted that he has no plans for random anus cleanliness checks at this time.
You realize of course that this means Wahw!
You actually think that rejecting your notion that the U.S. is no longer wonderful is the same as sticking one's head in the sand?
Get some priorities and take off your cloud-colored glasses. They are as DANGEROUS and deceptive as rose-colored glasses.
Like the sheep you criticize, you ALSO are a sheep of a different kind, wearing blinders of a different kind. You bury your OWN head in the sand; you pretend nothing can be done, as opposed to those you accuse of thinking nothing needs to be done. You are, in essence, the same kind of critter.
What about the sugar people put in their coffee? They going to ban that as well?
Are they going to check everyone who brown bags their lunch for sugary drinks? They going to inspect every thermos in lunchboxes? All I see here is people simply sneaking soda and other stuff in on their own in anyway they can get it in. People are not going to abide by this, no way.
But you know, the people of Boston voted for this idiot, so let them wallow in their decision to put this man in office.

As far as I'm concerned, none of it should be 'socially' taxed, banned, or regulated to coerce behavior or "health". Some of us like some potatoes with our meat...though all potatoes and no meat is pretty repulsive. ;-)
Let the people choose what enters their mouth, 'for that defileth not a man; it is what he spews from his lips that defileth him'.
"Thin may be in, but fat is where it's at: get hip, get Hefty!"
Massachussetts - the state that wears a skirt.
What is the matter with people? Why are not these imbeciles stripped naked and whipped down the street? Is the citizenry sick to put up with this nonsense?
Actually, that is one of the more common factors in female genitourinary infections. It often brings fecal bacteria into contact with moist mucosa 'up front'.
Yeah, I thought of that briefly, but left it like I wrote it. If she is not careful, it could result in a bladder infection. Good catch.
But Hey, tell it to the mayor. lol
What cafeteria, concession stand or vending machine doesn't offer "diet" alternatives or water? Those choices were already as easy to make as the "sugary" ones.
