Rep. Allen West will vote no on budget deal

Rep. Allen West is against the bipartisan budget deal between Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the Obama administration.

West (R-Fla.) told The Hill that $39 billion in cuts is insufficient. Asked whether he was pleased with the agreement on policy riders, West responded, "It's all about the money."

West, a freshman who is popular with the Tea Party, said he is a firm "no" on the measure, which will be voted on next week.

The problem is that I’m sure the RINO leadership has enough commie and RINO votes to pass this and isn’t concerned with what the conservative freshmen do. It’s like Obamacare in reverse...

Yeah, there’s a limit of course. But I think it would be advisable for Repubs in Conservative districts to stand on their principles... never know who might be watching them for a challenge down the road.

I disagree- he’s been right time after time. He was the first one to call out Eric Cantor and the leadership for lollygagging on the budget issues when nobody else was talking about it, and I believe time will show he’s way ahead of the curve on this vote.

I have a question - how come the government isn’t shut down right now? IF the CR hasn’t been voted on, then there is no deal in place to continue funding.

Or is it all just more games to fool the American public?

I applaud Allen West for voting no, but don’t think for a minute that Boehner wasn’t counting votes— and once he had enough, was more than willing to encourage West and many “tea party” freshmen vote no. And don’t think West wasn’t in on that deal, as well as Bachmann and others.

This is how Washington works when you only have one branch. Boehner probably got the best deal he could short of shutting down the government, and West and other freshmen were able to stand their ground on principal — and they all live to fight for the Ryan budget and other much much much bigger battles down the road.

Personally, I was for a shut down if need be. But there is some good fine print for us in this deal and we must realize we do not have but one third of the power levers currently.

West, like many freshman congressmen (even Obama from what I've heard) believed that they were sent to DC to do the work of the people. The DC Establishment could give a damn about the people; it's all about them and their power, and the games they play. Short of a real war on US soil, I don't know what it will take to break the DC mindset. A president Palin could do it, IF she has enough new congress people in her first term to capture both of the Houses.

It’s good positioning in that his no vote won’t change the outcome and it gives him one more feather in his cap when he runs for higher office.
I like him and sincerely hope he gets a national bid soon.

Thank you. I didn't understand until reading this piece that the agreement reached last night has not actually been voted on and signed into law. What gives?
