Great, first time unemployment claims skyrocket and the secret on the economy is out, there is no recovery.
I believe the government holds the first check, and pays it out the last week you are laid off. If you are laid off for one week, I don’t think you receive an unemployment check, unless something changed.
I would expect them to get unemployment, the same as any other laid off worker that paid into the system.
They will have to pay back any unemployment benefits, if congress gives them back pay.
Hah! It takes 6-8 weeks to get your first check anyway. Not that gov’t workers would be aware of that since they basically have union jobs (non fire’able)

If someone is laid off temporarily without pay, they get unemployment. That’s what is happening to most Federal employees next week. Private sector or public sector, that is what happens.

If I were the governor, those claims would get processed reallllll slow.
That will cost the workers a lot of money. But they will get back pay anyway so I doubt anyone will file.

If the government is shut down, the unemployment offices may be closed. Many of the workers on the state side of that program are paid by *federal* funds. (I once worked for a state unemployement insurance program.)
