Its weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?
Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.
Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOPs 2012 presidential nomination.
That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent
Removing Trumps name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now, adds Holland.
Thats the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to just six. Im trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but its the most compelling explanation I can think of.
As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe theres a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally thats Sarah, but That Guy From The Apprentice out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palins support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. Im skeptical of that, though, since protest votes dont normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.
If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think hed be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.
All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is
HORSEFEATHERS !
Show me some evidence that she could win the independent vote.
Cain? I don't know enough about him, yet, to say whether his morals are good or not. I am unfamiliar with all of his business dealings and private life. Still and all, he stand NO chance of winning even one primary.
I refuse to allow an agenda driven media to select my candidates for me. If I did, I might as well throw all my principles away and register Democrat.
If you want a candidate the media is going to embrace, vote for Obama. Regardless of whomever is the Republican nominee this time, they are going to to be trashed by a fully emboldened media. You will see poll after poll and hear pundit after pundit telling you that Obama can't lose.
The Obama media would tear Trump into little pieces. They know the current crop of potential nominees will be like shooting fish in a barrel....except one.
I’ve said this many times and i’ll say it again: If Palin runs, she’ll such the oxygen away from these other guys...even Trump!
Nobody, and i mean nobody can attract people like Palin. This is why the Left is scared crapless of her.
Oh, and to those who like to constantly give us their: “She simply isn’t ready for the presidency” Pi$$ off! Here are her three qualifications in my book in order of importance:
1) She loves her country!
2) She’s a rock-solid conservative
3) She has executive experience as Gov. of Alaska
Run Sarah Run!
He also had NO idea how to be president, or get anything done. All he had, was an abiding hatred of the Bush family.
“such” = suck!
DOH!
Obviously, you really haven't been paying attention to much of anything.
As an anecdotal example ( which, at this point, is probably far better than all of these dumb polls, all put together ), I know quite a few indies who are big Palin supporters.
I truly can't see those who support Governor Palin going for him, in any way, shape, manner, or form.
is not valid at this point. Poll after poll has her negatives very high and her solid support is on the low side for anyone jumping in a primary. How many people would a challenger to Palin really lose? I cannot find an instance were a polarizing candidate like this made it out of a primary winning and went on to be President. Circumstances change on a dime and this polling issue could turn tomorrow but we have no way of knowing today if they will.
Yup, she rochs — no question about it.
I think at this point in the game with the US heading to number 2 in the world with our economy weakening by the day and the weaker the economy the more difficult it is to defend ourselves.
Why would you not vote for the one who more conservative of the two?
Yes, under normal circumstances sitting out the vote punishes the GOP and encourages them to get a someone more conservative next time but we are not in normal times... sitting out this election would be punishing the United States Of America. Frankly this nation can not have 4 more years of Obama. I'll vote for anybody who is more conservative than Obama... I'll vote for ARNOLD if he is all we have left after the primaries.
What good is being a pro Christian conservative if we sit out an election and due to our elected leader's hatred for America we end up with Sharia law?
Personally, I think the Trump Factor is due to the certainty of spectacular entertainment. Can you imagine a debate between Brackets and Trump? Trump would take Brackets to the woodshed on every sustantive issue that could possibly be debated and not even muss his hair.
“The Beauty of Me” vs. “I Won?!” It would be a campaign season to remember.
Allahputz being a putz again.
I don’t trust anyone, especially people like Trump.
If The Donald has the balls to call the Kenyan bastard out on his non-existent birf certificate, then let him. It serves a useful purpose. If no other repubic has the balls to do it, well then, he may get my vote. One thing I am damn sick of is weak ass repubics.
Thanks very much, Yehuda. I’ve saved it. The Donald is having a grand time playing the media while feeding his obama-size ego and giving *tingles up the legs* of some idiot pundits on our side and theirs who are hoping for a rich spoiler and entertainment deluxe.
That almost naked, bordering on porn picture of his third wife, alone, could be used by Dems, to kill him, in a New York minute and that's the least of his problems/baggage!
Sure Palin has a problem, which has been generated by the MSM and the Johnny-come-sort-of-latelies GOP/conservative elitists/pundits/talking heads/columnists. I believe that she can turn it around; however, should that not wind up being the case, then we'll all have accept the fact of at least a second term of Obama and the loss of the House and seats in the Senate.
Any supposed GOP voter, let alone a conservative one, who supports Trump, needs to have their collective brain matter examined. Just because he's now sort of turned into a "birther" means less than nothing !
Did you see Sarah on with Greta tonight? If not.........watch the repeat, which will come in soon.
I think the Donald is looking to be the 2012 version of Ross Perot.
Many democrats are opposed to the No Fly Zone in Libya. Sarah Palin has supported the action taken in Libya. There would be less crossover for Palin on this issue.
Let's hope Trump also agrees with the Obama Doctrine (he we're hoping he does not win)
