Its weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?
Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.
Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOPs 2012 presidential nomination.
That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent
Removing Trumps name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now, adds Holland.
Thats the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to just six. Im trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but its the most compelling explanation I can think of.
As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe theres a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally thats Sarah, but That Guy From The Apprentice out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palins support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. Im skeptical of that, though, since protest votes dont normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.
If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think hed be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.
All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is
I want to like Trump, but somehow he reminds me of Ross Perot. Combover instead of ears.
>> Wheres the damage?
Indeed. The perceived damage is product of the opposition, and snot-nosed conservatives.
Whatever the photographer did with this (Photoshopping of textures?), is as amazing looking as the lady herself.
TMML. You owe me a new monitor. :-)
Percieved or not percieved, she STILL CAN’T AND WON’T WIN.
Of all the hypothetical GOP candidates whose names are being bandied about today, Trump and Herman Cain unabashedly represent the capitalist side of the American dream. With good vigorous grass roots capitalism (and a decent morality, which is less clear for Trump), the need for socialist fixes is minimized. Palin knows something about business’ needs too, but she hasn’t commanded any significant empires.
Yeah, she’s gorgeous.
I regret not having at hand a poetic quote that well describes the beauty a woman such as this provides the observing man.
If enough crossover Democrats voting in primaries think this, she will end up the GOP candidate. Is she at least as alive as a ham sandwich? Check. Ergo, a shoo-in.
She has a classic beauty, not a “sluttish” beauty.
“Take that, Sarkozy!”
I agree with you on Trump.
The more “straight-talk” he gives to the American public, the more he’s going to catch on. I think he contrasts extremely well versus Obama. With Trump you get the feeling that he will be able to run rings around Barry in a debate and the American public will eat it up.
I’m hoping Trump runs. These are unconventional times. We need an unconventional President.
Too bad the red spectacles in the first one hide her eyes... ok, ok, ok! (Duck’n & runn’n)
Don’t agree. Palin could easily win.
Appealing to your creative side, we only need to help work out the hook — if you know what I’m sayin’.
This far out, the pollsters have no frickin’ clue. They may as well use a random number generator to come up with their results.
What red spectacles...
Sloan-Kettering is a great Hospital by the way.
I know this already.
What I don’t know is if there exists even a single republican with testicles.
I’m DAMN TIRED of wimp republicans.
Perot was right.
Donald Trump? ARE YOU KIDDING ????????????????????
Married three times ( with REALLY disgusting divorce proceedings made public ), his last child is only slightly older than his first or second ( I forget which ) grandchild, he has given tons of money to DEMs, on ALL levels ( so don't even try to say that it was just local/city & state ),his kids, from his first marriage, have turned out well, but there are tons of old articles with at least one of them bad mouthing him, and he is no conservative.........hell, he's a poster-boy for the term RINO !
Many people, of all political stripes, hate him and if you imagine that he would win N.Y., Ct., and N.J., should he win the GOP primary ( which he won't ! ), you're smoking or ingesting something illegal, or terminally naive.
If he does throw his hat into the ring, he would have to put all of his holdings and investments into a holding company. This would kill him, as he is a control freak,! Also, his show/s ( I don't know what he's on, I've never watched any of them ) would also have to go bye bye, as he couldn't be on them. And then there are all of his foreign holding in places like Dubai and Scotland; not to mention the ones still being worked on all of the rest of the world. Do you really believe that he's going to just walk away from all of that? LOL
He has lied about "doing it all on his own", when he's lucky that his father came before him.
Baggage? You wanna talk about destroying baggage? He has more than almost anyone named, except for Newtie.
Time once was, when someone like him, with NO experience in politics and/or leading the military of the USA, talked about running for the presidency, everyone, even the dumbest American, would laugh at that thought; big time.
I truly can't see those who support Governor Palin going for him, in any way, shape, manner, or form.
Did you see Sarah with Greta tonight? SHE WAS AMAZING; TALKED POLICY, WORLD EVENTS, AND BURIED OBAMA !
