Obama plan unifies Defense, Homeland Security response (martial law preparation?)

The U.S. Secretary of Defense yesterday announced that he's agreed to a plan that will allow one military commander to be in charge of both State National Guard and each military branch's reserve forces when they are deployed to respond to domestic emergencies including terrorist attacks, according to Lisa Daniel of the American Forces Press Service.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates, along with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the Council of Governors -- a group President Barack Obama formed in January 2010 to represent all of the states' governors -- signed off on the agreement, known as the Joint Action Plan, during a March 1 Pentagon meeting, Ms. Daniel reported in a statement obtained by the 14,000-member National Association of Chiefs of Police.

If you belong to a network you have nothing to worry about .

Well, I irregularly attend my local Tea Party meetings, and I do have a couple of Freeper buddies around town, but outside of that, I'm not a part of a real network.

Seriously, if things went south in a hurry, I'd really have to make sure that I could easily be identified as a friendly, just to venture out.

Imagine a world run by control-freaks.

No need. George Orwell and Aldous Huxley already did it for you.

I don’t think I’m panicked in the least, I just presented a scenario, something I see as a real possibility because there is nothing this man won’t do to destroy this country. However I did ask for opinions because nothing is carved in stone.
How do we know how much of the military is Muslim sympathizers(Ft Hood)/ Obama supporters. And we know anyone supporting Obama is ethically, and morally challenged, but what about the military guys who do take their oath seriously. Aren’t they going to have a tougher moral dilemma about firing on American citizens? 2nd Marine Division, killing everyone in DC?
I don’t want to believe any of this can happen. I pray none of it happens. But my gut tells me otherwise, and has since this idiot won the election. His preacher, and best friend have been telling him for 25 years that America is evil, and needs to be destroyed. We have seen his utter contempt for some members of our society. Do you see a good outcome from this?

My eyes are drawn to the word following INCLUDING.

What OTHER items fall into domestic emergencies

that the MILITARY needs to be called out?

The officers hold US Army reserve commissions, and the US Army completely controls whether they are promoted.

Theodore Roosevelt's 1907 rewrite of the militia laws (National Guard Act) has some constitutional problems, and this is one of them. The Constitution says the States have the choosing of officers for the Militia.

Congress can prescribe the training and equipment of the Militia -- but the Constitution does not give the Congress power to control the training and equipping of the Militia, only "prescribe" equipment and training regimen.

There are other problems as well, having to do with the Congress's pretended power to authorize the President to deploy and use the Militia overseas, for example. Hamilton and Madison would have a big, fat problem with what Bush and Obama have done, sending Guard units to Europe and the Middle East while their home States of Arizona and Texas are being invaded from Mexico.

I think I'll get me a stetson and sew Old Glory on the front...

Just turn the front of that Stetson up and fix it in place with a big old brass five-pointed star. And when anyone asks you whose outfit you're in, tell them "Hood's -- I'm from By-God Texuss!"

Right. My point is that the National Guard is not the militia. They are a reserve component of the US Army. Most states do not really have an official, organized state militia.

By law, the NG are members of the Federal militia, which the feds allow the states to use when the feds don't need them.

"I am amazed and a bit both heartened and alarmed at the tens of thousands of Americans who are preparing for ‘survival’ as too food, gardens, defense against what they feel may well be coming. I'm a great grandmother. I have NEVER seen this level of concern. Now I’m wondering if such preparations might be prudent. And if so, our window of opportunity may close sometime around May of 2012."

Unfortunately, I cannot reassure you that preparation for the worst is imprudent, for I, like so many others, see the eventuality of martial law and the attempt to implement a totalitarian, non-republican form of government as inevitable. It will happen and I believe it will happen about six months prior to the 2012 election. We are seeing our nation being transformed before our very eyes. they have told us what they want to do; they have shown us what they are doing. We know their intent and we have seen their plans taking form. Prepare and do what you can to keep freedom alive. When the storm comes, and it will, do what it takes to survive.

M14/M1A
M1 Garand
AR-15
FN-FAL
etc.

Hell, the C&R guns, like the Enfields, Schmitt-Rubins, Mausers, and Mosin-Nagants will do to arm the neighborhood to repel a bunch of slack-jawed jackasses from the hood.

Not a bad idea, but anyone who just shoots at dark people in that situation is not on our side and needs to be taken care of with rest of the riff-raff. Unfortunately, yours really is a valid concern.

Thanks for saying that. Yes, I do believe I have a valid concern. Even well-known black conservatives would be at risk of friendly fire if a shooting war broke out. Unknowns like me would be at even greater risk of being mis-identified by friendlies.

I don't spend a lot of time dwelling on the possibility, but it does come to mind when I'm reading threads like these.

A friend of mine, who is a fellow retired Army NCO and a true patriot, and I have talked about this very topic on more than one occasion. I've told him his concerns are valid, but he's also part of our network and well-known to us. Getting to us, though, will be the trick.

Unfortunately, he lives in a predominantly black neighborhood in an urbanized area where his neighbors are, as he puts it, the enemy. His concern is getting his family out and to a safer area in a SHTF scenario. He will not consider moving because his wife will not consider moving away from the city, so I do not have a good solution for him. Glenn has sort of painted himself into a corner. I hope your situation is better.

I completely feel for your black conservative friend, but he’s intentionally putting himself and his family at potential risk by succumbing to his wife’s ill-advised wish to remain in the black community.

As for me and mine, we just recently moved into the DFW metro area from a more sparsely populated, rural area. My wife and I are well aware of the potential risks, but we had to relocate for business reasons. We’re hoping to get the heck outta here in another year or so, after doing what we need to do.

I’m just crossing my fingers that our nation’s cultural fabric (frayed as it is) holds until we can get back to the country.

In the meantime, I plan to make as many close acquaintances of local Tea Party members as possible, so that I have some sort of network to fall back on.

Thank you for your thoughts.
