State officials said Thursday that damage to the marble inside and out the State Capitol would cost an estimated $7.5 million.

Cari Anne Renlund, chief legal counsel for the state Department of Administration, said in Dane County court that estimates of damage to marble includes $6 million to repair damaged marble inside the Capitol, $1 million for damage outside and $500,000 for costs to supervise the damage.

Much of the damage apparently has come from tape used to put up signs and placards at the Capitol.

The protestors claim they have a 'right' to invade the Capitol, that may be true. They do not have a 'right' to vandalize it, which is what they are doing. I want arrests, now!

The protestors are slobs, just like my State Senator said yesterday. I laughed while watching MSNBC last night. Lawrence O'Donnel was demanding Grothman apologize to the 'good people' who were peacefull protesting. Grothman did not back down, and the four 'good people' O'Donnel had on were just being completely rude and their behavior pretty much proved Grothman's point.

They ought to repair it strictly using non union shops and lay off enough state workers to cover the damage.

I believe The People of Wisconsin deserve that the Unions be sent the bill for ALL repair and cleanup, as they clearly INSTIGATED the actions of their minions.

The knuckledragging union thugs don’t care about property that does not belong to them. All they care about is themselves. Piggies.

Marble is a metamorphic stone made of calcium carbonate. Acids easily eat into its surface which is why housekeeping doyennes advise “Never use vinegar to clean marble.”

Once the surface of the stone has been restored, it probably ought to get a protective coating of polyurethane which is neutral and would shield the stone from future chemical attack.

I don’t see where some tape would hurt a piece of marble.

A little Goo-Gone and it should be fine.

This story sounds like BS.

Having said that if I am wrong certainly the Teacher Union should pay the damages.

Goobermint ALWAYS gets their money- by hook or by crook.
Taxpayers are damned if they do , or don’t.

Maybe next firefighters can start fires to put them out and then demand a raise.

A metaphor of what the public sector unions do to the taxpayer all of the time.

I say make the hippie teachers fix the hippie teacher damage, film it, and make every classroom show it sometime during the coming school year.

"Marble has been damaged by TAPE?"

Most tape adhesives are mildly acidic. Special ph neutral "acid free" mounting tape used by conservators, curators, artists etc. is pretty expensive. Even with the mild acidity in masking tape, scotch tape etc, it will permanently etch marble after a few days (quicker depending on the humidity). If it's a highly polished marble surface the damage will be quite evident, and require extensive buffing and repolishing to restore it.

So, the Marble was damaged by "Tape"? Where did the Capitol buy their Marble from, Walmart? Harbor Freight?

How can Tape damage Marble? Unless it's taken off with a hammer and chisel....

IMHO: Do not repair the damage. Let the damage be a memorial, and instructive visual aid to young, visiting students, the mindless destructiveness of liberalism.
Reminds me of war damage to buildings in Germany. For decades, many bomb damaged buildings, and buildings scared by heavy artillary remained as constant reminders of the conflict.
Most have been repaired, replaced, etc. in recent times, but very instructive while they remained.
