State officials said Thursday that damage to the marble inside and out the State Capitol would cost an estimated $7.5 million.
Cari Anne Renlund, chief legal counsel for the state Department of Administration, said in Dane County court that estimates of damage to marble includes $6 million to repair damaged marble inside the Capitol, $1 million for damage outside and $500,000 for costs to supervise the damage.
Much of the damage apparently has come from tape used to put up signs and placards at the Capitol.
The Governor needs to start the lay offs.. and let the chips fall where they may.
Individual school districts should lay off any teacher that is absent from the classroom with one of those phony excuses
There are no pedestrians on the George Washington Parkway, unless they have a death wish. No sidewalks and tons of commuter traffic at all hours. No lighting either. Beautiful scenery driving between Arlington and 495 as you follow along side the Potomac River.
Do you like movies about gladiators?
There ya go! Or maybe better yet, calculate the number of add'l state gubmint workers (especially those in Madison, including pro-union delinquent police & firefighters) that need to be laid off to make up the difference. I hope that Scott Walker adds this to the budget deficit that needs to be solved.
Aesthetic issue? Or were they worried that there would be an uneven curb resulting in pedestrian hazard?

Strictly aesthetic.
There is absolutely no pedestrian traffic involved here.
Besides, it is possible (and standard) to replace the curb on the same grade as existing, they just wanted it to look ‘weathered’ and match what had been there for decades.
I forget what the contract wording called for - probably just restore to original upon completion.
We eventually prevailed, think we chose arbitration rather than jury trial.
No, I’d just like to see some libtards whipped.
“You a Rasist.”
You a idiot. Franchise revoked. Next.
No. F’ing. Way. They do not have the money for that. Leave it.
Will it be repaired by Government Union Workers?
charge the union for the damages, no wait a minute that means the taxpayers still pay.
Bump.
And then hire non-union contractors to fix the damage.
Yep. Ever see the way most union employees treat company property? It’s not theirs and so be it if they destroy it due to improper use or cleaning.
LOL!
That’s okay - we can just raise your taxes to clean up the mess.
Have a nice day.

“charge the union for the damages, no wait a minute that means the taxpayers still pay.”
Declare the NEA an ongoing criminal enterprise, and confiscate all their assets. That would be plenty.
That’s interesting. Thanks. I was certainly not aware of that and I imagine few if any of the protesters were as well. I suppose the question is why no one from the Capitol maintenance staff weighed in before this. Maybe none of them knew either?
Thanks for posting the YouTube link, very instructive
With that in mind, I say leave the damage as a lesson to future generations of the stupidity of this batch of "union" thugs.
There ya go, give the marble a nice burnished patina.
I'd doubt your average maintenance staffer would be familiar with the concept as it's probably never been much of an issue before.
What makes it visually damaging is that part of the allure of marble is it's translucency. Some sculptures have details that are so thin you can see light through them. Even on flat wall or floor panels, the translucency allows some light to penetrate the outer layer of marble which is then reflected in a very diffuse manner giving marble its warm glow. It's the same effect a layer of wax has on wood furniture or flooring. Any etching or scuffing of the surface will be highly evident, and I'd imagine we're talking about quite a bit of tape, posters and bumperstickers from this crowd.
