Teachers union bigs tossed from Albany eatery (cheapskates)
DAILY NEWS ^ | February 16th 2011, | BY Kenneth Lovett

Cops booted an unruly group of city teachers union officials from a posh Albany eatery after they caused a ruckus over their dinner tab.

Paul Egan, the union's political and legislative director, set off the fracas - claiming the quail he was served, and finished, wasn't large enough.

Egan and about two dozen other members of the United Federation of Teachers spread over three tables at the swank bistro Marché inside 74 State, a boutique hotel down the block from the state Capitol.

And with Egan apparently worked into a froth over the size of his quail in the $40 prix fixe meal, union members looked on without paying the group's bill.

Egan began shouting and demanded to see the manager. The restaurant's owner soon appeared, and pleaded with Egan to calm down, sources said.

When he didn't, restaurant staffers called the cops.

Two officers were dispatched to handle a man who was "yelling and refusing to leave," Albany Detective James Miller said.

To hustle the scene-makers out of the dining room, restaurant managers reduced the bill for the group's prix fixe dinners, Miller said.

Officers told Egan the dispute was a civil matter and ordered him to pay the bill - to which he followed up by asking if he was required to leave a tip, sources said.

"They all had to stand up and walk out the door with the cops behind them," one source said. "It was mortifying. It was like they had to slink out the door."

A source with ties to the union said it's not the first time Egan has been kicked out of a restaurant after making a scene.

"He's done this more than once, though he never got escorted out by the police before that I know of," the source said.

Now that’s funny....................

Funny how people who run that sort of scam- and then don't tip either- are the bleeding-heart liberal types who can't wait to give our money away.

Their own? You have got to be kidding me.

I wouldn't put it past some of these to be running a double scam- there on "official business" so someone else is paying the tab, get the cost reduced or the meal free, submit the original bill for expenses, pocket the difference!

What a fat prig. This is the first time I have seen donkey face head of the teacher’s union.
I am a retired member in New York State. What a disgrace.
Al Shanker was there when I did teach. He was a sweaty greasy pig. May be rest in peace.

Egan should take this up with Michelle Obama — she told restaurants to serve smaller portions. (The moron obviously thinks quail are a type of turkey.)

I guess he should have ordered quail sometime with his parents.

I'm not a union fan but this could be any group.
Just seems the other members of this group had no class either because they did not keep him under control.

I you think that was ‘cheap’ and you want to have some fun.

Just check his tax returns. Like all Libs, I will bet you would be surprised at what you will find.

Back in your day I doubt that liberals dominated the teacher’s union the way they do today. All kinds were teachers same as all kinds used to get plum university professorships. Now you have to be a liberal to get one in the liberal arts colleges. They only hire their own kind

Same union thugs ~ no hope of changing policies in New York. Although I am sure they could arrange a beat down provided nobody owes any gambling debts to one of the union thugs' friends.

BTW, really surprised to see that old fashioned stuff still going on ~ today's mobbed up unionist usually tries to stay out of the public eye by avoiding this sort of incident.

I'll bet they love his performances and in this case it earned them all a price break

Quail, pigeon, what’s the difference? About the same size. He should have said something before he ate it. BTW, if they were at a fancy restaurant you better believe the Union dues paid for that regardless of his rant. He’ll just put in a chit and be reimbursed. His picture says it all.

Paul Egan has already sent this letter to the restaurant manager:

Manager
Marche
74 State Street
Albany, NY 12207
info@74state.com

Dear Sir:

I write to make you aware of an incident on February 14, 2011 at your establishment.

The circumstances are these:

On the night of Feb ruary 14, 2011, I hosted a dinner for 24 colleagues. A number of untoward incidents occurred, including half the party not getting served for an hour and a half, late and rude service, drinks hot and cold spilled bny waiters and cald and uncooked meals.

Despite the rudeness shown to us by restaurant employees, and their refusal of my repeated requests to speak directly to the manager on duty, I paid the bill in full—even though the first bill presented to me was for 30 meals rather then the 25 guests who actually attended.

Let me add that the problems of that evening were entirely uncharacteristic of what my colleagues and I usually experience at your restaurant, where I generally find the food excellent, the service first-rate, and the atmosphere more than hospitable.

Sincerely,

Paul Egan
52 Broadway
New York, NY 1004

Obviously, something at that restaurant by Egan’s “colleagues” set the restaurant staff off. What could that have been? Perhaps some protest exuberance carry over in an establishment that is used to more decorum?

"Why do you want to talk to me, so you can keep making fat jokes?" United Teachers Federation lobbyist Paul Egan asked the Daily News Thursday outside his home.

Egan refused to the pay the bill, which at one point surpassed $1,800 as the drinks flowed.

UFT officials also ignored questions about whether they were aware that Egan was accused in 2000 for involvement in a student-cheating scandal when he was a middle-school teacher.

He’s looking for a handout from the Management for their episodes. Knows he’ll be reimbursed if he made a big enough stink. But it looked good for him to “appear” as if he was paying the bill, when in fact he orchestrated the happenings in order to have his bill “adjusted”. What a scumball. He has done so before...

Investigate and arrest members of the “Congressional Progressive Caucus” and union bosses and Declare all States “Right to Work” states, no more forced compulsory union dues in order to keep your job.

Defund the marxist trade and government worker unions.

No one will pay union dues voluntarily.

Let the union workers give themselves a raise by not having to pay any more dues.

The next POTUS must cripple and imprison the corrupt and degenerate marxist public and private sector union leadership by declaring all States “Right to Work States”
