Cary, N.C. While eating lunch at the Cary Towne Center food court on Thursday, State Highway Patrol Lt. Ken Kubas helped save a life.
Kubas, a trained EMT, was with other members of the patrol when they noticed Tyler Keehn, 20, choking on a piece of food. His mother was attempting to dislodge the food from his mouth.

I’ll bet he gave the guy a ticket. After all, that’s what cops do.
While goofing off with his pals on the taxpayer’s dime, this guy bumped into a fellow who was choking on a ham sandwich.
Stop the presses!
Says the libertine.
Emergency personnel get to have lunch breaks too.
He has a right to eat. Do you get to eat at work? If not, you might want to try to educate yourself and get better employment, might be better than that temp agency.
And, as this case shows, they are constantly vigilant and on stand-by.
Hey, it’s not my fault there’s always 3 cop cars parked in front of the dunkin donuts around here.
Really? How much are you willing to bet, and will you donate your loss to FreeRepublic?
Gee, taking it a snide comment pretty seriously aren’t you?
Long time opponent on Police issues Freedomwarrior at least “got it”.
Kudos to Lt Kubas, the NCSHP has been having a rough yr and it is good to read a positive story.
Yeah, tickets. And they all shoot dogs constantly. That’s all they do.
When they shoot people's labrador retrievers because they ran at them wagging their tail, they deserve scorn and contempt.
They are our employees and like any other employer we should reward positive behavior and criticize screw ups. If cops don't want to be criticized for shooting people's dogs, they should stop shooting them.
Copper shouldn't have bothered. We don't need more useless idiots around.

There you go again, being intelligent on a thread alread staked out by boot-lickers and libertines.
Rationality, while it would be refreshing, doesn't sell well in some markets.

That all sounds good, but you didn’t give any kudos, you went right to the dark stuff. These knee jerk reactions just get old, nothing personal.
Maybe just go ahead and shove your attitude where the sun don’t shine, and give credit for once where it is due. This guy did the right thing. Save your hatred for authorithy figures for somebody else.
I’ve never really understood the cop-hatred on FR. Conservatives are generally a pro law-and-order sort of crowd. Cops have a hard job to do, and they get precious little support from the communities they serve.
I would have thought that conservatives would be more in favor of law and order, and not just street justice.
I simply think that police should be given a high degree of respect and in return, they should earn it. As those tasked with enforcing the law, they should be held to a higher standard, and nobody should loathe poor cops worse than good cops; the crappy ones make life a lot tougher for the professionals.
I completely agree... but it will be a minority opinion here. On FR, cop-hatred is the majority opinion. \
