I doubt there's too many people who aren't aware of this, but it looks like we're in for a few interesting days.

Fishers, Indiana is crunchy with ice-covered snow. Stay home and curdle up with a good book.

It looks like a good bunch of NYS is in for it with this one with the Southern Tier getting the worst of it.

We’re expected to get almost two feet by the time this is over and the water content of the snow is supposed to be really high.

Ithaca will probably be worse.

There will be people dying in this, sad to say.

KC Metro area: We are ready for what they have referred to on FaceBook as “Snowmageddon.” Groceries stocked, hatches battened. I only really fear a power outage. City living and no fireplace. Ice storm of 2002 took my household out for five days. It’s only fun the first few hours and then it gets really tedious. The weather reporters here are beside themselves with excitement.

Looking at the weather map t will hit us at about 2am with probably a mix then the temp is supposed to rise to about 31º and rain all night so morning ought to be very interesting.Dh only has a shrt drive less than 3 miles but with what they are saying it could be really bad.

The loader is sitting in the yard, ready to clear the drive and around the gate, and there are chains for my truck, but so far we are getting flurries that don’t amount to much. I’m hoping for a little moisture. God bless those who are going to get a lot of it.

When I was growing up in rural Iowa in the 50's and 60's We were snowed in many times during some winters. Other winter, we never got snowed in. Weather varied from year to year and that was the norm.

Perhaps it was because we lived 15 miles from the nearest big town, but we always had plenty of food and fuel. My parents just calmly dealt with it. It was normal. Snow plows might take several days to finally get to us. They prioritized. if someone on the road was pregnant or had a medical problem, you got done first, otherwise you waited. Many days of school were missed.

Now, for some reason, snow is a big deal. What am I missing?

Right now, here at 8,500 ft elevetion in the Colorado Rockies west of Denver it is snowing and -6F outside. The high tomorrow id forecats to be -2F with a low tomorrow night of -20F. Got the two fireplace inserts fired up and cabinets opened under sinks to let warm air in to help prevent pipes from freezing.

And elsewhere we are having moderate winter temps in Alaska with almost no accumulations of snowfall, especially here in Wasilla.

The Iditarod has for over the last 5 years has had to start OTHER than the traditional re-start in Wasilla, they have to truck in snow for the dogs to run on in Anchorage for the TV “start” but the traditional start has been moving steadily north every year.

Because we are losing snowfall in South Central Alaska.

At least you guys in the lower 48 don’t have our literal 6 months of winter. Take care, have heat and power backups, plenty of games, a portable radio, food and water.

Unless its an emergency stay off the roads.
