COLUMBIA, Mo. -- A monster winter storm took aim at a third of the nation Monday, threatening to lay a potentially deadly path of heavy snow and ice from the Rockies to New England, followed by a wave of bitter, bone-rattling cold that could affect tens of millions of people.
Cities including St. Louis, Kansas City and Milwaukee could be hardest hit, with expected midweek snowfalls of up to 2 feet and drifts piled 5 to 10 feet. Even hardy Chicago could be in for its third-worst blizzard since record-keeping began.
"I wouldn't want to be on the road in open areas tomorrow night," said forecaster Tom Skilling of Chicago television station WGN. "I don't think I'd want to be driving in the city either. The fact is people die in these things. They skid off the road and go wandering around in whiteout conditions."
Warmer areas were not safe, either. The system could spawn tornadoes in parts of the South.

“Former presidential candidate Algore. Please pick up a house phone.”
Damnit Al Gore! I WANT MY GLOBAL WARMING!!
He doesn’t have enough strength to pick up the phone after dragging his enormous fat butt around his massive carbon sink house while pining for the days of his globull warming BS.
I gassed up my global warming clearing machine earlier today. I am ready.
Fishers, Indiana is crunchy with ice-covered snow. Stay home and curdle up with a good book.
LOL! Poor Al. His 15 minutes are up.
It looks like a good bunch of NYS is in for it with this one with the Southern Tier getting the worst of it.
We’re expected to get almost two feet by the time this is over and the water content of the snow is supposed to be really high.
Ithaca will probably be worse.
There will be people dying in this, sad to say.
KC Metro area: We are ready for what they have referred to on FaceBook as “Snowmageddon.” Groceries stocked, hatches battened. I only really fear a power outage. City living and no fireplace. Ice storm of 2002 took my household out for five days. It’s only fun the first few hours and then it gets really tedious. The weather reporters here are beside themselves with excitement.
18-26” of global warming expected in SE wisconsin...
My poor mom in Endicott, NY(near Binghamton) will be stuck inside with her cats!
LOL!!!
We’re going to need to do the same. the muffler on ours is broken so mr. mm has been hesitant to use it. It hasn’t been a problem yet as we’ve only been getting a few inches at a time and shoveling IS good exercise.
But this is a different matter. This kind of heavy stuff doesn’t like global warming clearing machines very well.
Glad I just freshened-up the antifreeze.
Al’s still laughing it up at the bank.
So much for glow BULL warming!
“But baby it’s cold out there”.
LLS
You got that right. He’s probably looking for more property on the beach to spend his money on before his buddy FUBARack takes it all.
Prayers up.

When the NWS put up the winter storm warnings up early today, I knew we were going to get screwed.
It was sunny here all day and I did all my running around. I’m all stocked up with perishables. I sure hope mr. mm has enough gas for OUR generator.
And the globalwarming blower.
The Southern Tier of NY is supposed to get really clobbered.
The problem with that area is that it’s far enough south to still get lots of moisture in from the ocean but far enough north to be cold enough to snow.
That allows for the maximum amount of moisture the air can hold without it being rain.
And we get pounded.
Looking at the weather map t will hit us at about 2am with probably a mix then the temp is supposed to rise to about 31º and rain all night so morning ought to be very interesting.Dh only has a shrt drive less than 3 miles but with what they are saying it could be really bad.
