Egypt protests: America's secret backing for rebel leaders behind uprising
The American government secretly backed leading figures behind the Egyptian uprising who have been planning regime change for the past three years, The Daily Telegraph has learned.
By Tim Ross, Matthew Moore and Steven Swinford 9:23PM GMT 28 Jan 2011
The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.
On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.
He has already been arrested by Egyptian security in connection with the demonstrations and his identity is being protected by The Daily Telegraph.
The crisis in Egypt follows the toppling of Tunisian president Zine al-Abedine Ben Ali, who fled the country after widespread protests forced him from office.
The disclosures, contained in previously secret US diplomatic dispatches released by the WikiLeaks website, show American officials pressed the Egyptian government to release other dissidents who had been detained by the police.

The State Department is full of morons no matter who is the President.
Perhaps the only difference is that when a Democrat is President the State Dept accepts a new slate of morons to hang around for the next 30 years or so.
Meeting was in Dec. 2008.
After the election but before the inauguration...all during the big deal of 0bama setting up his stuff....
remember?
Agree with you except the majority of King Obama's training is with the communists. Marxists is not his agenda.
Soros and the NWO
AMEN!
Just about over.

I totally agree...This article is complete and utter BS.
America does NOT want to see Mubarak displaced...He’s a known quantity, and in spite of being one of the sleazier whores we’re in bed with nationally, he represents sustaining the Middle-Eastern status quo.
At the end of the day, the Government would rather just bow out of the whole Israeli-Palestianian thing entirely. If they could yank every soldier out of Iraq and Afghanistan without the whole house of cards coming down they would.
As long as the Middle-East remains fragmented, distrustful of one another, and in a defensive fetal position, our oil lifeline is not threatened...Once we have a wave of Muslim revolutions hit, oil skyrockets, and our economy grinds to a halt.
Now no matter what some of our more fervent conspiracy theorists here believe, Obama and company don’t stay up at night fantasizing about how to green the planet. Just like any other politicians they feed their base the minimum necessary to win re-election support and hold on to power.
Obama knows that if oil spikes to $8 a gallon, he’s a one term president (if he isn’t already.) “Drill baby drill” will become a bipartisan mantra, and China and the US will face off over the remaining exploitable oil sources, and not necessarily just diplomatically.
It’s in NOBODY’s interest to have a more volatile Middle-East.
Except the Muslims’.
Has Obungo made a comment yet?
Oh, That’s right, he is responding like he did to NK.
He cant be reached for comment.
Last seen on the golf course.
Contrast this uprising with the attempted uprising in Iran awhile back. Obama didn’t lift a finger to assist the Iranians. This tells me quite clearly Obama wants the middle east controlled by Muslim radicals.
Sadly I do think these idiots are stupid enough to try to capitalize on the situation selling their green pipe dreams.
“This implies that Bush started it. “
That’s what they wanted you to think when you read it. Actually, “who” refers to the dissidents, not to the US actions.
AMB. JOHN BOLTON: Is Democracy Coming to Egypt at Last?

As seen on Fox News Channel’s “Happening Now with Jon Scott and Jenna Lee” on January 28.
FORMER U.N. AMBASSADOR JOHN BOLTON: I think what’s clearly happened today [in Egypt] is that the Muslim Brotherhood, the radical Islamist party in Egypt has called it’s supporters into the street. I don’t think it was present on the first two or three days.
I think after the Friday prayers the Brotherhood brought its people out. That’s why the protests are even more extensive today. That constitutes no doubt about it a direct threat to the military government, and I think the failure of the other security forces to bring the demonstrations under control also now explains the presence of the military.
Let me be clear here, this is not just the Mubarak-family government. The military has ruled Egypt since Gamal Nasser and they over through King Farook.
It’s the military that is the real government and they are not going to go peacefully.
I think the question is whether and to what extent the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islamists have infiltrated the leadership. If the military holds firm it’s entirely possible, although bloody, that the government can hold onto power. That doesn’t necessarily mean Mubarak will be in power, but the military will be, and I think that is why this contrast makes it so important for people to understand, this is not a choice between the Mubarak government on one hand, and sweetness and light, Jeffersonian democracy on the other.
I don’t think we have evidence yet that these demonstrations are necessarily about democracy. You know the old saying, “one person, one vote, one time.” The Muslim Brotherhood doesn’t care about democracy, if they get into power you’re not going to have free and fair elections either.

Actually, I find this report rather lame. Why would this person come to the U. S. in 2008, to organize an event three years later? They had two years under Obama to carry it out, and they took a pass?
Someone is cleansing this report IMO.
“””Its in NOBODYs interest to have a more volatile Middle-East. Except the Muslims.”””

You failed to recognize the Leftists, Marxists, and Communists who have been in bed with the Muslims for decades in an effort to destroy Christianity, Judaism, and Capitalism. The Leftists, Marxists, and Communists also dream of a Middle East in flames.
Is it any coincidence that the last time there was a volatile Middle East a Leftist President Jimmy Carter was at the helm?
