SAN ANTONIO - Deborah Gonzalez says she is pretty heated with Hertz Rent A Car on San Pedro Avenue. Gonzales and her family say they found a loaded gun in a car they rented last week.
"I was horrified," said Gonzalez. "I couldn't even speak. I broke down crying because there was a loaded gun in my hands, and I don't know where it came from."
Gonzalez says she was riding in the car with her 2-year-old and 3-year-old grandchildren. She stumbled across the gun while picking up a child's shoe that fell under the driver's seat.
"I kept yanking, and yanking, and yanking because I could feel something."
Gonzalez says the incident has left her family traumatized.
"A lot of lives could have been ruined," said Gonzalez. "Mine! My kids! Lives could have been taken!"
A worker at the Hertz location would not give News 4 WOAI too many details, but said it is possible the car wasn't cleaned properly.
Gonzalez's family says that is no excuse for putting the children's safety at risk.
"It's very disappointing that a company that big could be so careless," said Gonzalez's husband, Marquis Stevens.
Gonzalez reported the gun to Converse Police Department. Officers say they have seized the gun and are treating it as a "found property" case.
The worried mom is now urging other drivers to use caution when renting a car.
News 4 WOAI is still waiting for an explanation about the incident from Hertz management.
I doubt an M1 would fit under the seat. ;)

Yup! When I bought my Highlander, it was 1 year old. Sold in a divorce settlement. I was lookin’ for a cd, and felt under the passenger seat. Found a dead mint Colt Woodsman! In a carry bag. Had a LEO friend run the serial number a couple of times. Never reported stolen. It’s a fun gun!
That is what Liberals do.
One of the subjects the kids are really looking forward to is something called “Personal Protection.” It includes a trip to the LOCAL GUN RANGE where each will be required to become familiar with and fire a – SHUDDER – HANDGUN!!!

Yeah. I’ve read the article, I can’t find anything indicating that the kids had anything to do with actually finding the gun.

Ha ha! Like others, I’m thinking ‘free gun!’ This woman is weak and should be ashamed in front of her children. She doesn’t have to want the gun, but you don’t act like a dip just because you and a gun are in the same room (or car, in this instance).

Wouldn't a person with half a brain, simply drive back to the rental car place, inform the police and have them meet her there to deal with the firearm? She's not even smart enough to do what kids should be taught, LEAVE THE DANG THING ALONE!

One of my aunts used to work in the county courthouse. As a friend of the DA's office, cops and sheriff, she could request any type of firearm she wanted from their found/old evidence stockpile. She had a .45 revolver, a .38 and a .25 semiautomatic. I still have the .25. Other nephews got the .45 and .38 (I was the youngest).
Geez, lady, breathe into a paper bag for a few minutes.
