WASHINGTON Senate leaders said Thursday they have agreed that minority Republicans would filibuster fewer bills and nominations in exchange for a promise by the Democratic majority to give them more chances to offer amendments.
The gentleman's agreement announced by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican leader Mitch McConnell was part of a package of measures to make the Senate a more workable and less contentious place. It also included support of a resolution, to be voted on later in the day, to end the practice of one senator being able to secretly block votes and a rules change that would slash by a third the number of presidential appointments that need Senate approval.

Your statement about the GOP being suckered again is way off target.
Sadly it is you my Friend that is way off target.
The republican senate and house leadership is comprised mostly of left wing socialists, as soon as you accept this fact and operate from that position th ebetter it will be. It will all make sense to you if you can just hold that thought for a while.

Surrender by the GOP. If they thought they could get away with it, they would do away with elections, make O dictator for life in exchange for the promise they could retain their prestigious positions
The problem for Republicans, as I understand it, is that Democrats have to votes to eliminate the filibuster in the Senate rules. Now that Robert Byrd is gone, there is no Democrat left to shame them into maintaining Senate traditions. So, why wouldn’t you compromise a deal that is better for you than the elimination of the filibuster?
Man, there is no way the Rats can back out on that, is there?
“GOP Suckered Again!”
As always! We need to get rid of more RINOS!
Where did they get the idea that we wanted them to get along...from the media?!
Am I mistaken or don't we have even more Senators now than we did before? Why should we take a weaker position than we had before? Why shouldn't we fight for better position and not just lay down and rot?
“The gentleman’s agreement” means it is not binding.
It’s obvious this would not go well over here.. and as you say, reality will likely find this ‘deal’ lying in a ditch soon enough sucking for wind.
The US Senate: Selling you out one Freedom at a time.
Thank you for not caring. :)
Trying to head Mike Lee (UT)off at the pass so he doesn’t make a big deal out of raising the debt ceiling by filibustering.
They back out, the Republicans back out and filibuster everything.
I don’t see a problem here.
The sad truth is some of the “new” GoP senators are so much rewarmed moderate mush.. Brown, Murkowski come to mind.
sidenote, The Senate TEA Party caucus met today, Marco Rubio and Ron Johnson were not there,, Toomey left after making remarks about looming Debt cap..
On to 2012 and 2014.. It’s gonna be a long bumpy ride..
Giddyup.
Now is anyone convinced the OP(formerly the GOP) and the socialist Rats are two sides of the same coin and they are one big socialist Republicrat Party?
Yeah... the scenario I have in my mind requires people with dignity and spine. That type of person does not seem to be in the majority.
And if the pubbies can't see how much power they have if they coordinate their actions between the Senate and the House - and how they can pressure Harry into doing what they want or else make his life a living hell - then they just aren't the kind of legislators we need right now.
2012, 2014, come quickly...
Sounds like the pubbies caved, again...
The GOP gave the Dems a chance to save face. This is really about preserving the filibuster for Dems when the Republicans take over the Senate in 2012.
Charlie Brown, meet football...again.
