Gentlemen's Agreements are only possible between Gentlemen.

So, there is utterly no agreement here.

The republican senate and house leadership is comprised mostly of left wing socialists, as soon as you accept this fact and operate from that position the better it will be. It will all make sense to you if you can just hold that thought for a while.

Yes. The Democrats are natural Socialists, but the Republicans got infiltrated as well, and it is all Kabuki Theater from there. None of it is real.

This isn’t that bad. Now with the GOP controlling the House, all crappy bills should be stopped (fingers crossed). Plus it’s a gentleman’s agreement which means it’s basically unenforceable, the same way the Russians view treaties with the U.S.

I see this as a win...

nothing will happen we don't want anyway since we own the house.

BUT

Since we have about a 100% chance of taking the Senate in 2012... this means these rules will work in our favor come 2012.

WIN for us.

It also included support of a resolution, to be voted on later in the day, to end the practice of one senator being able to secretly block votes and a rules change that would slash by a third the number of presidential appointments that need Senate approval.

Republican Senators think this is a good idea? We've yet again been sold out by RINO's.

Yeah, it’s a win, all right. A big win for the Dems and their RINO enablers.

“in exchange for a promise by the Democratic majority”

The Democrats will break that promise within one week.

Excellent response...and so accurate. The GOP “Leadership” in both the House and Senate is comprised of left wing socialists. Its time for people to wake up and smell the coffee

I don’t understand how no one in here understands that, with a republican controlled House, this is not a bad thing...

OK,then at the first chance the GOP should offer an amendment to repeal Obamacare and if it isn't accepted the deal is OFF!

The House has nothing to do with confirming nominations of 0's socialist czars of all stripes. This is the kind of thing the Repubs now pledge not to filibuster. Some of these extremists deserve to be permanently filibustered.

Not to mention if, heaven forbid, the SC loses one of its conservatives. Do the Pubs just let 0 create a socialist majority on the court, or do they filibuster for their right to maintain the present balance?

This is maybe not a bad thing now, but it could well become a very bad thing. Especially given the Pubs' long-standing tendency to roll over and submit at crunch time.

“Am I mistaken or don’t we have even more Senators now than we did before? Why should we take a weaker position than we had before? Why shouldn’t we fight for better position and not just lay down and rot?”

You failed to understand the first part of my reponse, so here it is again.

The republican leaders in the house and seante are socialists, so they take a weaker psoition to advance socialism. they do not give a hoot about the conservative agenda. And the cry from the right is “They just don’t get it.” Which is pretty much where you are coming from. Once you accept the basic fact that republican leaders in the house and seante are socialists, it will all make perfect snese to you.

How about just slashing presidential appointments by one third, period. The constitution lets the prez appoint ambassadors, judges, his own staff, and the original cabinet departments. War, Treasury, Justice and Interior. That ought to be enough. No more czars and such. The modern presidency is ridiculously bloated.
