My husband and I are being interviewed for our local news station in about 1 hour as a "regular families" opinion and expectations of the Presidents speech tonight.
Any good talking points or comments to throw out there? I know you all can help me with some good ones!
Will you be allowed to say that you expect the President to say one thing and as usual do another.
IOW, talk about cutting the deficit and then spend more money we don’t have.
Why is he punishing AZ. when it is being ravaged by illegal aliens who are taking away jobs from Americans?
the man has passed bills which have not been popular with the middle and now he has them passed he thinks he can move to the middle and have us all think that he’s a moderate.
When he says investment he means yet again spend.
Obama can read a speech which has been written for him but the fact remains he says one thing and then does another, for instance for two years he has said jobs and now he complains that the GOP are looking at health care when that is all he did .
Just because he can read a speech I see no reason why I should believe him when his actions have been proven to be very out of the mainstream
Also, stop setting up new agencies and governmental functions. For example,
Obama proposes to establish a new drug development center because the private sector isn't investing enough and bringing drugs to market quickly enough. This is a problem caused by the FDA approval process. Reform the FDA. Don't create another government agency to deal with the problems caused by the first government agency.
STOP THE DEFICIT SPENDING.
Given the expectations he set for in 2010 versus the results we’ve seen, we would expect a speech that:
1. Includes an apology for his first 2 years.
2. Acknowledges that his jobs ideas were utter failures and should be scrapped.
3. Recognizes that the recent election was a message that he has to do business completely differently.
4. Promises to listen to the American people, starting with signing a repeal of the healthcare plan.
5. Promises to reduce the spending to at least the levels of 2010 - not just freezing the budget where we are today.
Of course this won’t happen, but they’re asking what you’d expect to see... not predicting what we will see.
Ask why Obama wants to freeze spending at record levels instead of cutting spending like the majority of Americans favor.
You might as well decline the interview since the tone and message is entirely set by the video editor, not you.
Obama can NOT spend 2 years imposing regulations by his czars and then expect us to believe him when he says he’s going to cut regulations that get in the way of job creation.
His policies and entire agenda ARE the problem, NOT the solution!
A few:
- Why is he going to talk about freezing discretionary spending when he has more than doubled it in two years?
- Why is he suddenly a economic conservative when he has just spent more than all previous presidents . . . combined?
- Does he realize that the government cannot create private sector jobs, which are the only jobs that fuel our economy - the government can only create (or not create) an atmosphere that fosters job growth.
There are some good responses here (love the Birth Certificate ones)....but you probably want something that will have you on TV.
Some ideas:
Where are the Jobs?? Like his predecessor...Obama claimed he was going to create jobs. Where are the jobs?? Instead of having the Chinese premier at the White House...how about bringing the jobs back from China...
Govt Spending: We have spent trillions on bank bailouts and business bailouts...yet our economy is stillstagnating. Are we going to spend more tax dollars to bail out failed businesses?
Our state and local governments are raising our taxes on everything. Will there be relief on the Federal level to offset the increases in taxes state and locally?
“Do you think the Republicans are obstructing Obama’s attempts to fix the economy?”
Answer: They haven’t had a chance to do that - they only came into power 3 weeks ago. The Democrats have had free reign to do whatever “fixing” they wanted to do... and by my reckoning, they have utterly failed to improve anything.
Tell them you expect to hear him tell us how he’s going to spend us into prosperity, while cutting government waste and fraud. Again.
Ask him if Nashville has recovered from the flood yet.
I would focus on how Obama’s lousy ecomomy has impacted your family.
How Obama’s multi-billion dollar vacations have got to stop.
And how - in his SOTU speech tonight - you hope he will own up to the change that voters made clear last November, and that how Obama should make the drastic changes that America demands. That he should concede his tax and spend strategies are and were wrong. And that he should listen to the majority of States who DO NOT WANT Obamacare.
For starters...
How often does he use the word “investment” in order to make the US “competitive”?
“Investment” equals “New Government Spending”
The only transparency we are getting from this administration comes when you try to board an airplane.
Opps, scar.
With all the talk about government investing in America, I have to ask why should we get behind that with the government’s record at picking winners and losers?
Will we be going to go into business as the worlds supplier of $5,000 dollar toilet seats?
How does it help our global competitiveness to make sure that GE has enough in tax breaks, incentives, and regulations so that no small business can possibly compete with it?
Even social security is providing a negative return for many people.
The kind of investments they are talking about makes all of us less free and as a result less competitive.
I would say that I really didn’t expect much, just more rhetoric about change and hope, more political promises as he kicks off his re-election campaign, when for the last two years, the change has been bad, and taken away our hopes. Unemployment is at record highs; spending and the deficiet are at record highs, and with the raising of the debt ceiling, and printing of money, inflation is going to rise as well; Obama doesn’t seem to stay in DC for very long to address these concerns, and seems to care more about the state of other countries than the state of our union! That is what I would say.
