A top official for the Russian Orthodox Church on Tuesday proposed creating an all-Russian dress code, lashing out at women who leave the house painted like a clown and confuse the street with striptease......
He argued that clothing is not a private business, and that he hoped that Russia would soon be a place where scantily-dressed women or men in track suits would not be admitted into public venues.

Sadly, I am not an authority on this subject but I believe several states besides NY do not require women to wear tops
‘History provides no example of a preist ridden people maintaining a free civil government’ Jefferson
Nowhere does that quote suggest doing what the soviets did, don’t be trite. The idea is that preists need to stay in their domain. He wants a law telling people out in town to dress according to his code.
You imply that the choice is a priesthood that dominates society, or a priesthood in the gulag. That’s a false choice,,, this guys job is to teach and convince, not to create law enforcing his belief.
>>>”OK, ladies, drag out that babushka.”<<<
lol
Maybe the Russian Orthodox Church had Vladimir Putin’s ‘alleged’ affair with that 26 yr old gymnast Alina Kabayeva in mind..
Or, maybe Russian Orthodox Church is taking lessons from Iranian Ayatollahs ‘morality police’ regarding ‘dress code’ for women!
Seriously, I don’t think one can effectively ‘legislate’ against matters that are largely & essentially about upbringing, values, having a sense of personal judgement & decorum. Then again, I know quite a few Russians, and based on what I’ve heard, Russia & generally many Eastern European countries (similar to their southeast asian counterparts) have serious social challenges ... “Mail Order Brides” is an interesting concept & practice!
What is a mini-skirt?
hehehehe
I was clear enough and never suggested priests be eliminated. Jyst that they should not seek to enforce their desires through law.
I will go enjoy the russian women in mini skirts,,,, and you go enjoy whatever you prefer to look at. lol
besides read closer, he didn’t just give an opinion. He wants a dress code mandatory for all of russia.
He's a Russian citizen, isn't he? Does his ordained status cause him to lose the right to speak out about Russian social issues and politics? Ordained men should be banned from the public square -- isn't that what you want?
And you want a speech code. The big difference between you and him being that he's a citizen of the place and a member of its cultural/social structure -- and you're not.
No need to overreact, I just want guys like him to lose when they argue for national dress codes that are based in his religious sensibilities rather than widely accepted norms, such as not being topless. I would feel the same if the mormons for example, wanted a law requiring all women to wear homespun dresses.
hey sport I never suggest of the speech code, I just want to speech to get laughed at.
sorry, droid’s a pain sometimes. That is, I want his speech snickered at when he wants to be a boss of society.
what was the mormon russia the wouldn’t need to be a law, now would be there? But ok,, we can do it your way,,, all the women should dress like the amish to make SOME men feel better! lol
That is, if it were the norm there, as you opine. There would’t NEED to be a law, would there? For example, not walking around naked, IS a norm. Therefore, no law is needed.
Usually drunk.
“Public nudity, although not always welcomed by the denizens of the town, was not forbidden by any Vermont statute or Brattleboro ordinance until July 17, 2007. The town has drawn national attention when nudists make a visit to take advantage of the situation.
On July 17, 2007, Brattleboro town officials passed an emergency rule by a 32 margin, temporarily “banning nudity on the main roads and within 250 feet of any school or place of worship, among other places” due to a number of complaints.
On August 22, 2007, the Brattleboro Selectboard decided not to make the ban on nudity permanent, once again allowing nudity in the town when the temporary statute ran out in September.
However, on December 4, 2007 the Selectboard made the ban permanent. Nudity is now banned, and one faces a $100 charge if cited.”
“Thats a false choice,,, this guys job is to teach and convince, not to create law enforcing his belief.”
What if the Orthodox Priest believes it is a sin to murder? Should he encourage laws against it?
What if he believes it is a sin to steal? Shall he work for that to be illegal?
What moral beliefs is he allowed to want reflected in the civil code, and what moral beliefs are excluded?
Trite argument. Murder and theft are crimes against the rights of a specific individual, THAT is why they are codified. Athiest and saved both agree that they dont want to be murdered or be the victim of theft.
But this guy wants women to dress in a way that satisfies his religion. Her wearing a short skirt “doesn’t pick a pocket, nor break a bone”.
Thats why he shouldn’t expect to get a LAW. Maybe i dont like to see a man in a dress,, should there be a law that he can’t walk around in womens clothes? My preacher wears pants, like a man. See the problem?
