EXCLUSIVE. It seems that Obama might have borrowed his "Together We Thrive" slogan from Kenyan Prime Minister and fellow Luo clansman Raila Odinga. Odinga used the highly similar slogan "Fairly we share, together we prosper" in his party's 2007 manifesto and his campaign literature. The slogan conveys a plan for redistributing power and wealth to the lower economic classes in Kenya. This plan is explained in detail in Odinga's literature and that of his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The relationship between Obama and Odinga is a close one. According to this Wikipedia page:
In a January 2008 BBC interview, Odinga asserted that he was the first cousin of U.S. president Barack Obama through Obama's father.[29] However, Barack Obama's paternal uncle denied any direct relation to Odinga, stating "Odinga's mother came from this area, so it is normal for us to talk about cousins. But he is not a blood relative."[30] Obama's father came from the same Luo community as Odinga.[29]
Odinga originally lost the 2007 election. His supporters then unleased a two-month orgy of death and destruction to force Odinga into the government in a shared power arrangement.
Here is some background on the slogan "Fairly we share, together we prosper":
According to The Indigenous World 2008 (p. 418) by Kathrin Wessendorf, the 2007 Kenyan election hinged on the question of redistribution:
The main subject that divided the competing political sides was the issue of devolution of power and resources (known in the local Swahili language as majimbo). Whereas the government was opposed to majimbo, the opposition used it as a platform to woo voters, especially among marginalized and impoverished indigenous communities.[3] Indigenous communities, who have not benefited from an over-centralized government, favored this system of equitable distribution of political power and wealth and voted overwhelmingly for the opposition party as a result. The leader of the opposition, Raila Odinga, included devolution in the manifesto of his party, the "Orange Democratic Movement" (ODM), under the slogan of "fairly we share, together we prosper."[4]
Here is the cover of an Odinga campaign brochure in which his slogan appears prominently on the cover:
This brochure explains Odinga's plans for redistribution.
In this 2007 statement, Odinga uses a slightly different version of his slogan: "Equitably we share, together we prosper."
Odinga's party is quite open about its plans for redistribution and broader socialist aims. The 2007 ODM party platform is here.

“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
It is never “sharing” when the “gift” is facilitated by the credible threat of deadly force.
Further, people who claim to be Christians should know what aspects of this “sharing” require the advocate and supporter of it to break some of the Ten Commandments, particularly the one that forbids coveting. By its very nature, socialism is built first on coveting the wealth of others. This is because socialism cannot create wealth, it only consumes it. Second, it must use government to seize the property of others, that is theft. Third, we are told this will lead to a fair and prosperous society, which is a total lie.

Interesting...
From the website Atlas Shrugs, June 17, 2008:
Watch this video of the conflict in Kenya months back [see link below]. Odinga and Obama are Luo. Odinga and his American counterpart and strategist Obama both campaigned on this canard of "change". Obama campaigned for Odinga. Adam pointed out that Obama's been in Nairobi politicking more recently than he's been to Iraq. Why now does Obama pretend he doesn't know him?
Listen as the Luo calls itself the "Taliban" in the video. It's graphic, it's gruesome but it is who Obama supported. Watch the whole thing, particularly the Luos burning a church, raping women, and hacking a man to death -vid hat tip kasper

Up to 1,000 killed in Kenyan crisis: Odinga

Odinga, who turned 63 on Monday, faces a dilemma of responding to international pressure to avoid provoking more violence while also maintaining momentum to oust Kibaki.

"...this hasn't even gotten into the relationship between Obama and Raila Odinga, yet another politician who ran on the 'hope & change' theme while utilizing criminal ties, who would then stage a violent and bloody uprising when national elections didn't go his way. Somehow we don't hear much about the nightly phone calls between Sen. Obama and Raila Odinga these days..."
Kenya's first truly free and fair democratic election was in December 2002, won by Mwai Kibaki and a multi-ethnic coalition party NARC (National Rainbow Coalition). One of the leaders of that coalition was Raila Odinga.
Kibaki didn't give him positions in the new government that he felt were important enough, so Odinga formed an opposition party, ODM (Orange Democratic Movement, orange the symbol color of opposition).
When Raila Odinga lost the presidential election last week (12/27/2007) to Mwai Kibaki, he claimed the vote was rigged, whereupon his tribal followers went on murderous rampages such as in the town of Eldoret, where on New Years Day dozens of people were burned to death in a church set on fire.
Throughout Kenya, hundreds of people have been politically murdered in the last few days.
Kenya's 37 million people are divided up into over three dozen tribes and sub-tribes, but the two dominant ones are Kikuyu and Luo. Kenyan politics since independence in 1963 has essentially been a duke-out between them.
The father of Kenyan independence and president until 1978 was Jomo Kenyatta, a Kikuyu. His main political opponent was Oginga Odinga, known as "OO," a Luo and Raila's father.
While Kenyatta was pro-West and sided with America in the Cold War, OO [Oginga Odinga, Raila's father] was a Communist who was aided and supported by the Soviet Union.
That's why Raila went to school in East Germany (born in 1945, he graduated from Magdeburg University in 1970), and named his first-born son after Fidel Castro.
Thus it likely won't shock you to learn that Raila has now made a deal for support from the Soviets' successors as world-champion enemies of the West and democratic freedoms: Moslem fundamentalists.
The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya has posted on its website a photograph copy of a Memorandum of Understanding, dated and signed on August 29, 2007, between Raila Odinga and Shiekh Abdullah Abdi, chairman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum of Kenya.
It pledges the support of Kenyan Moslems for Raila's election. In return, as President of Kenya, Raila agrees to 14 actions, listed a) through n) on page two. Read them all, and be sure you're sitting down. Here's a sample:
b) Within 6 months re-write the Constitution of Kenya to recognize Shariah as the only true law sanctioned by the Holy Quran for Muslim declared regions.
c) With immediate effect dismiss the Commissioner of Police who has allowed himself to be used by heathens and Zionists to oppress the Kenyan Muslim community.
g) Within one year facilitate the establishment of a Shariah court in every Kenyan divisional headquarters. [Note: everywhere in Kenya, not just in "Muslim declared regions."]
Again, read all of them, for others are just as bad or worse.
It may also not surprise you that Raila is not Moslem himself, but claims to be a practicing Anglican. Only a minority of Luo are Moslem (most are Christian). Kenya on the whole is Christian, with 80% of Kenyans either Protestant or Roman Catholic, while only 10% are Moslem.
And here is the biggest non-surprise: Raila Odinga has, in his own words, a "close personal friendship" with Barrack Hussein Obama Junior.
When Obama went to Kenya in August of 2006, he was hosted by Raila and spoke in praise of him at rallies in Nairobi:
Much more at:
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/kenyas_killing_fields/index.html
Whether Mr. Odinga [Raila Odinga] has ordered his men to commit murder and arson is unclear. But his own background does not exactly suggest enthusiasm for democracy and the rule of law. Mr. Odinga's father, Oginga Odinga, led the Communist opposition during the Cold War and Raila Odinga was educated in Communist East Germany.
(snip)
In August 2006, Mr. Obama visited Kenya and spoke in support of Mr. Odinga's candidacy at rallies in Nairobi. The Web site Atlas Shrugs has even posted a photograph of the two men side by side. More recently, Mr. Odinga says that Mr. Obama interrupted his campaigning in New Hampshire to have a telephone conversation with his African cousin about the constitutional crisis in Kenya.
What should Americans make of Mr. Obama's Kenyan connection? If he has been putting tribal or family considerations above America's national interest by supporting Mr. Odinga's anti-Western candidacy, it raises serious questions about his judgement.
At the time of his visit in 2006, President Kibaki's spokesman complained that Mr. Obama was behaving like a "stooge" of Mr. Odinga which was at best undignified for a visiting American senator, and at worst unwarranted interference in the internal politics of another country.

Nothing like unveiling your Communist campaign slogan for 2012 at a memorial service. Stay classy, Democrats.
Well put. And I might add, Jesus Christ was not a Marxist.
Alone I compete and prosper. What’s with this marxist “together we thrive” crap?
Yes, Obama and Odinga are related by tribal affiliation, and—it seems—good buddies. It could be a coincidence that they use nearly identitical slogans, but I think that unlikely.
"Change" is old-time commie speak for Marxist transformation. Obama's people didn't invent it.

After the election....
A Landslide Mandate For Change
A breakthrough election
Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!
We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-peoples movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all peoples movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and peoples unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

July 1, 2009...
Change is Here, Change is Coming
Sam Webb, National Chair, Communist Party, USA:
Let me begin with a simple observation: If the last 30 years were an era of reaction, then the coming decade could turn into an era of reform, even radical reform. Six months into the Obama presidency, I would say without hesitation that the landscape, atmosphere, conversation, and agenda have strikingly changed compared to the previous eight years.
In this legislative session, we can envision winning a Medicare-like public option and then going further in the years ahead.
We can visualize passing tough regulatory reforms on the financial industry, which brought the economy to ruin.
We can imagine the troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan while U.S. representatives participate in a regional process that brings peace and stability to the entire region.
In the current political climate, the expansion of union rights becomes a real possibility.
Much the same can be said about winning a second stimulus bill, and we sure need one, given the still-rising rate, and likely long term persistence, of unemployment.
Isnt it possible in the Obama era to create millions of green jobs in manufacturing and other sectors of the economy in tandem with an attack on global warming?
Cant we envision taking new strides in the long journey for racial and gender equality in this new era, marked at its beginning by the election of the first African American to the presidency?
And isnt the overhaul of the criminal justice and prison system a system steeped in racism no longer pie-in-the sky, but something that can be done in the foreseeable future?
All these things are within reach now!

Agreed but I was not referring to the "change" slogan. I was referring to "together we thrive" v. "together we prosper." They are nearly identical.
I see. Thanks. And you’re right. It’s no coincidence. These slogans are used by Marxists everywhere.
Just another empty campaign slogan like hope and change.
Pray for America
