Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

26th/27th - Wheeler in NYC, Harlem apartment. Dill and mrs. tidied Wheeler house after departure of houseguests. assuming late morning thru early afternoon. Dill reports he turned radios on, tv-s off, windows locked, doors locked, beds made.
note: we can assume Mrs. also tidied up the kitchen and there were no broken dishes, etc.
28th - Wheeler in DC. Early LEO report Wheeler arrives Wilmington 11:48 (am?pm?). Wheeler reportedly sends emails 5:10pm from DC, expected to arrive Wilmington evening of 28th. One email waxed nostalgic. note: premonition?
28th, 11:30pm - one witness not very familiar with Wheeler described perp as similar to Wheeler's build, "thick" wearing ‘grey sweatshirt’(we can assume light grey if able to discern grey at night) observed near Marini construction, according to one witness; dark clothes according to another witness. One witness describes (4) but reports observing actual throwing of (2) varmit-bombs. One earlier witness observed a hat, another observed a hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants, gloved hands, baseball-pitcher like toss. Ran quickly away, according to one witness, calmly looked in direction of porch light and then unhurriedly walked into park according to another. No automobile-related noises heard. Park-walker identified by witnesses as a ‘man’, not youth. No limp reported by witnesses. Neighbor, not Dill, knocked on Wheeler door, no response. No radio? No open windows or ajar doors noticed at that time. Dill did not check house that night or the following day. (note: river access, boat?? unhurried demeanor - nearest public parking along riverwalk? cameras?) (note: sweats =’thick’ appearance, especially light-colored sweats)
29th-day - assume no activity at house during daylight. Assume LEO visit Wheeler house re: fire night before - find noone home - subsequent statement issued Wheeler is wanted for questioning. Assume neighbors would now be alert to Wheeler coming home, strangers in neighborhood. Still morning - daughter receives email from Wheeler - isp is not Wheeler's iphone. Assume also not New Castle home computer. Wheeler described 9am by cabdriver as wearing sportcoat and slacks, no briefcase contrasts to video/witness descriptions of Wheeler wearing a black business suit, dirt-smudge on right leg, torn left(?) shoe, between 6pm and 9pm.
question: Assume Wheeler slept part of night of 29th in Lemours Bldg per LEO statement?
question: dirt-smudge on right leg, torn left shoe result of fight/jump out of (robbers’) car/tussle with robbers?
29th, 11:45pm - Dill notices UPSTAIRS window open 6 inches-no mention of radios on or off at that time by Dill. Dill decides to wait until next morning to check house. Wheeler believed to still be in Lemours bldg?
30th, 8am - Wheeler reported alive in Wilmington deli/coffeeshop. 10:45am Dill reports observing radios off, side door ajar/unlocked, Sabre out of scabbard, unreported number of broken plates in sink, unreported kind/number of chairs knocked over, knocked over plant, comet on floorboards - possible BARE FOOT footprint in spilled Comet cleanser in front of sink . Dill mistakenly calls New Castle residence, leaves message on answering machine for Klyce. Dill calls Wheeler's iphone, goes to voicemail. Klyce calls Wheeler, goes to voicemail. (note: someone washed up/shower-bare feet?/ate?/not a local?))
3:30 until 8:42pm - Wheeler still in Wilmington, witnessed in Lemours Bldg from afternoon until evening when, in an apparent third change of clothing of unknown origin, he exits into darkness and the hands of Destiny.
Morning of 31st - Dill calls Mrs. Wheeler's cell. Dill calls 911. Wheeler's body is found.
oddmanouts: Radios were turned off prior to 10:45am on the 30th - sometime between the night of the 27th and the morning of the 30th - uncharacteristic of Wheeler
Wheeler lived in Harlem, NYC = some degree of street-savvy.
sabre not stolen means not an ‘ordinary’ burgler/thief - perp travels light, takes no souvenirs = not an amateur?
Wheeler was beaten, not shot. Beaten = a messy death = powertrip/younger man?
Body was not bagged or disguised. Locals would know there were spotters at the landfill = out-of-towner?
If Wheeler returned home on the 29th or during the day of the 30th, would he not have called the police after discovering the condition of his home?
Cab driver who picked him up on the 29th at the station said he was carrying a small briefcase, dressed in sportscoat (casual).
If he found it that way I'd think he call. OTOH if the condition occurred while he was home and he was hit in head he may not have been thinking clearly, might not have called. (were his phones taken with Briefcase?)
Were there any emails, texts or phone calls to Dill from Wheeler when Wheeler was in the New Castle/Wilmington area before his death (as in “what the hell went on while I was gone?”
I am not saying Dill had anything to do with the murder, but unless he is telling the truth (instead of trying to hide his shortcomings) then it is impossible to get an accurate picture.
Dill waited a day to even go over to Jack's despite the open window.
I think Jack may have come home on the 29th to a trashed house...Maybe he unsheathed the sword thinking someone was in the house.
Dill said that after viewing the mess on the 30th, he went home and told his wife so she never saw a thing on that day.
If Jack's sabre was unsheathed on the floor and it wasn't Jack who handled it last, they would likely have fingerprints someplace.
The neighbor complained of noise at Jack's....and that noise was most likely Dill's family...
He also came up with the "big box at the post office" in this interview but not even an inkling in an earlier interview.
This was a BIG box.....Had his saber been sent out for some reason...and was he airing it to get rid of any moisture accumulated during shipping?? Cewrtainly unsheathed on the floor makes the most sense in that scenario.
on the 30th, Dill AGAIN (supposedly) turned on the radio....despite the chairs, plant, sword....
Makes no sense at all.
I agree...Jack was being kind again...to Mr Dill and family....making them feel useful...Cuz that's the way Jack was...
John P. Wheeler III's murder remains unsolved and some in the online world of article thread communications and chat rooms believe that his death was tied to his part-time consulting work at Mitre Corp.

America still holds people innocent until proven guilty. This thread contains the anguish of many who deeply respected this man and his monumental works, and may be read by those who knew him personally and loved him. I believe I speak for many in cordially inviting you to go forward showing more respect for a dead hero and his family; unless, of course, you enjoy pissing off a whole lot of grieving freepers.
Below is a link to a remarkable piece of video that has recently surfaced and has been posted on Youtube. Jack Wheeler discusses the Vietnam Memorial- The Wall. Just click on the picture below. I recommend it to all who appreciate the life and work of Jack Wheeler...

Thanks for posting that!
Jack should be remembered for devoting his entire life to this country.
I certainly hope to awake one morning to hear his killers have been caught.

Wow.. I finally had the chance to watch that interview.
Outstanding. Great find, great post. Thanks for the ping.
It’s hard to believe that was nearly 25 years ago, and we had only been out of Vietnam for a little over 11 years.
Soman of those reporting the news weren’t even alive during that time...All the more reason we keep reminding them of Jack’s constribution.
btt
We must not forget him.
