There are many possibilities, and we would have to know a fair amount about applicable NC law to understand the line in the story.

I am curious as to where you get the idea that murder is unforgiveable. What then were those Levites doing every year with the rope around their ankle and the bells on their robes? My Rabbi teaches that the only thing you can do to not be forgiven is to refuse it.
