One week after warning the distraction of repealing dont ask, dont tell could risk Marines lives, Gen. James Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, pledged to lead the effort to integrate openly gay Marines.
I, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps [Carlton Kent], will personally lead this effort, thus ensuring the respect and dignity due all Marines, Amos said. On this matter, we look forward to further demonstrating to the American people the discipline and loyalty that have been the hallmark of the United States Marine Corps for over 235 years."
Amos statement sent to reporters came Sunday evening, one day after the Senate adopted the repeal, capping a stunning, climactic day on the chamber floor.
Marine Corps leaders have shown the most resistance to repealing the 17-year old law. Former commandant Gen. James Conway said the Corps pretty macho recruits set them apart from other services.
On Dec. 3, Amos who became the 35th commandant in October and the chiefs of the Army and Air Force told Congress they did not want repeal now, based on the results of a DOD troop survey. The survey found Marines in combat arms units much more opposed to the repeal than other elements of the force, or the complete military.

Here is Amos full statement:
"Fidelity is the essence of the United States Marine Corps. Above all else, we are loyal to the Constitution, our Commander in Chief, Congress, our Chain of Command, and the American people. The House of Representatives and the Senate have voted to repeal Title 10, US Code 654 "Policy Concerning Homosexuality in the United States Armed Forces." As stated during my testimony before Congress in September and again during hearings before the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this month, the Marine Corps will step out smartly to faithfully implement this new policy. I, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, will personally lead this effort, thus ensuring the respect and dignity due all Marines. On this matter, we look forward to further demonstrating to the American people the discipline and loyalty that have been the hallmark of the United States Marine Corps for over 235 years."
Besides the gay pandering, is this bait for resignations?
And will it work?
Amos never said a word about fighting implementation of the repeal. He was fighting the decision to repeal. There is a tremendous difference between those two things.
Seriously, this shouldn't be a difficult issue for people to understand. It is the responsibility of an officer when asked his opinion to argue strongly and openly in favor of his position. Amos did that. But once the decision has been made by lawful authority, and the order issued, it becomes your responsibility to carry out that order to the best of your ability even if you disagree with it. Presumably, Amos demands that of his subordinate officers every day, and he would be setting a horrible example of that if he did otherwise.
I would have been just as understanding if he'd chosen to resign, but I don't think that was compelled as the only honorable course. Frankly, I think he might have felt he was abandoning his Marines when they needed him most, and that's why he decided to stay on.
How can the liberal democrats possibly believe that allowing & encouraging homosexuals to openly serve in the military is in America’s best interest? Especially when the military is overwhelmingly against repeal of Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell which was signed into law by Bill Clinton. The looney Left should hang their heads in shame.
Homosexuality is not a class of people. The Bible defines it as simply a category of sin and an abomination that needs to be repented of and forsaken (Leviticus 17:22).
There has NEVER been in the history of mankind any civilization openly given over to homosexuality that lasted longer than a generation or two. God’s hand of protection and blessing is removed from their lives and they are destroyed from disease, war, famine, pestilence, etc.
May it never be so in America.
IOWs he will put duty above personal feelings. He's a Marine not a hippie anarchist.
Disobeying a law would require that the law be unavoidable by an individual. In this case don’t break the law...simply resign. I’m a school teacher. If I taught in California (hypothetically), and I were compelled to incorporate a state-standard requiring lessons on gay-activists or “significant gay leaders”, then I would resign.
Correct that - Leviticus 18:22.
Okay.
Would you resign if your school system said there were homos in your classes?
You mean other than your snake skin?
First, you vehemently defend the careerist general by saying that he "MUST" implement homosexualism in the military. Then you wave the Constitution in your defence.
And then, after I asked you point blank about the primacy of God's Law, you suddenly agree with me. It should take precedence. Yet you still dodge the question about the general's need to follow this policy.
You evade, you equivocate, you spin.
Like all liberals, you lie.
Watch out for a massive drop in future Marines. Who wants to shower with a gay guy? Just saying....
Does your church specifically preclude homos from the congregation?
See it has already started. I can’t imagine what it’s like in the Marines now?
Excellent point. That is the very definition of duty, and I admire people who are serious about duty.
But here's the crux of my argument, and it's a fine one: As a Christian, I have duties too. Sometimes, these duties conflict with my secular duties. And when my Christian duties conflict with my secular duties, it will ALWAYS be my secular duties that I abandon.
And that is what is at the very heart of this. As I stated earlier, Christiantity and homosexualism cannot co-exist.
And that is why implementation of this policy is so important to the godless Left.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Jacquerie,
I have read your personal page and you sound like the poster child for conservatism. And so, I am not surprised to see this post from you:
“No, I do not. And when in conflict, Gods Law is superior to the laws of man. Our Declaration of Independence makes that clear.”
In light of that, I would like you to consider more broadly the position you are taking in relation to this current thread.
Here is my line of reasoning. From the Declaration of Independence we learn that the God of Nature put in place Natural Laws which give us the right to pursue life liberty and happiness and those rights cannot be removed from us by a gov’t.
So now, we are discussing sexual behavior. That of course includes preference. If the God of Nature has indeed put in place Natural Law then logically we must be able to see by looking to Nature, these laws at work. As we look to the kingdom of mammals-—let us not forget our esteemed scientific community has made it clear for us that we as humans are a part of this kingdom-—how would sexual behavior be classified ULTIMATELY? Is it a pursuit of happiness? For humans, yes, but for all mammals? No. Otherwise you’d see dogs doing it all the time everywhere. What about the pursuit of liberty? Maybe for humans, but for other mammals? Not so much. As a rule, throughout the mammalian species, we see sexual behavior related ULTIMATELY to the pursuit of life. At it’s most basic and logical conclusion, sexual behavior is absolutely related to the pursuit of life.
Now to homosexual behavior as it relates to the pursuit of life. It is clearly observable in all parts of the mammalian kingdom-—as you remember we have been told we are a part of-—this type of behavior occurs in less than 1% of the total population of any given species. Secondly, and certainly more applicable, in the mammalian kingdom, with the exception of humans, any animal showing homosexual behavior is made to be separate from the group. Why? Because their behavior is detrimental to the pursuit of life. Period.
So, how, Jacquerie, do you plan to make the pursuit of homosexual behavior sync with what is factually known in nature? It would appear, that in this instance, the laws put in place by the God of Nature have been trampled upon by our congress and are in conflict with the declaration of independence. So where do you stand, Jacquerie? With the constitution, or with the declaration of independence? With God or with man?
It appears to me that you hope to be able to stand in the middle and hope that others will stand with you. It also appears that you would say that someone who stands with God first is standing against the government. I hope appearances are deceiving!
Nevertheless, all people who call themselves Christians, if the progressive agenda is successful in this country, ultimately will be asked to demonstrate where their allegiance is...with God or Man. I hope you are preparing for this possible eventuality.
Just a few thoughts to broaden the scope of discussion on this particular thread.
Sicerely,
Daisy Mae
Between this and the Joint Chiefs issuing a statement this afternoon that they “unequivically” support the START Treaty, this really has become the Bizarro World in my country.
There are no leader—none. All sellouts. All compromisers.
Not one stands for anything good, decent, or God forbid—Christian—anymore.
The question is—why all of these defections?
I wonder if those in the know are aware that the SHTF moment is nigh, and they want to save their skins.
Then again, the BATFE wants to register high powerd LEGAL rifles.
You tell me.

What's your point?
True Marines (and soldiers, and sailors, and airmen) obey the lawful orders of their civilian superiors, as it should be.
The orders may be abnormally stupid or ill-conceived, but those orders must and shall be obeyed. Anything less is the path to a third world banana republic.
All sinners are welcome.
Even you.
Would you obey an immoral order?
Huh? He isn't going to implement the plan on his own schedule. He's going to have a suspense date ordered by Congress and it's going to be soon. Very soon.
