A military jury has convicted an Army doctor who disobeyed orders to deploy to Afghanistan because he questions President Obama's eligibility for office.

Obama is beyond shameless. So, apparently, is Lakin.
I think there may have been a few who tried the "he's not really the president because he stole the election" argument (a precise parallel to Lakin's situation). None of us had any sympathy for such nonsense, and properly so.
That ended when he insisted on going to trial over the last charge.
I still think he has good appeals left, ineffective consul, command influence, even before you get to the BC issue.
I’m hoping he gets to appeal or gets to simply choose retirement at his highest completed grade.
He made a legal error in judgment, but it shouldn’t ignore 20+ years of honorable service. Lakin’s intention WAS honorable and not criminal. He shouldn’t be treated like a common criminal.
I feel really sorry for the man.

I’d say that his entire case was based around whether he really was actually ‘ordered to go’ by anyone with the authority to order him.

In light of Puckett getting his client convicted on all charges I have amended my question, oddeck.
How was it good lawyering for Puckett to announce that his client was guilty 11 days before trial, state that Judge Lind’s rulings on discovery were correct, plead his client guilty without a plea bargain on the terms of his prison sentence, waive attorney/client privilege, have his client state that the orders that he disobeyed were lawful, and get his client convicted on all charges?

Here it is right out of a military publication:
"The first level of formal appellate review. The court may approve, disapprove, or modify the convening authority's finding and sentence. Unless waived by the accused, this court reviews, every record of trial in which death is the sentence; that evolves dismissal of a commissioned officer, cadet, or midshipmen; that sentenced a member to a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge; or in which the sentence is confinement of 1 year or more."
But since Lakin pled guilty to all but one of the charges, the additional punishment incurred from the missing movement conviction may not rise to the level of an automatic appeal.
Yes he pled "not guilty" to the missing movement. Obots should be wishing that he gets the least...as in staying in the military.

How many brave souls unecessarily died when their CIC delayed his decision, while endlessly golfing, to send in the surge troops .. for months?
Other than the drone attacks, how many brave souls died and *are* dying from their CIC’s insane ROE so muslims are protected?
How many courageous troops die every day due to their CIC’s

obvious perception of him around the world as an

How many intrepid military have died from the weapons
and fighters supplied by Iran in Iraq and Afghanistan,
while their CIC plays footsie and refuses to show strength

Well he had stupid counsel, that's for sure. One of them suggested to the doctor who was the last minute replacement for Lakin that the deployment was probably a good career opportunity for the him personally. This was after the Major told of the heavy casulaties the unit had taken two days after moving to their FOB. I'm sure that went over well with the jury.
As for your 'command influence' nonsense, that'll be a non-starter. And the BC issue was dismissed early in the legal process.
