ABC News has learned that Richard Holbrooke, the US Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, has died.
On Friday, Holbrooke was rushed to the hospital with a torn aorta. He went through more than 20 hours of surgery. Earlier this evening, speaking at the US State Department, President Obama sang Holbrooke's praises and called him "a tough son of a gun."
Holbrooke, 69, was a former ambassador to the United Nations and served as chief negotiator at the Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the war in Bosnia.

February 2001 until July 2008, Holbrooke was a member of the Board of Directors of the now almost bankrupt American International Group. During his time as a member of the board of directors of AIG the firm engaged in wildly speculative credit default insurance schemes that may cost the taxpayer hundreds of billions to prevent AIG from bringing down the entire financial system.
Holbrooke was a horrible Serbophobe who helped the muslims steal Bosnia and Kosovo and kill thousands of Orthodox Christian Serbs. And he once said that he had much more respect for the Vietnamese communists than for the Serbs.
But God will judge him, not me!

Fifteen years ago my father had a very large abdominal aneurysm that was detected in the nick of time due to extra tests run during an arteriogram to diagnose and quantify blockage in his carotid arteries. Fortunately a cardiovascular surgeon who trained under Dr. Michael DeBakey was able to fix the problem by implanting a dacron tube in the aorta and add 15 years to dad’s life.
The thing about a dissecting aorta, you know you’re dying. Better than a stroke though. Was that gloomy?
