SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — A senior Chinese delegate on Friday urged his fellow international officials to extend the commitments of the environmental Kyoto Protocol, which is set expire in 2012 and has been a contentious issue at this week’s U.N. Climate Change Conference in Cancún, Mexico.
“If any balanced outcome can be produced in international climate change, there must be a continuation of KP,” said China’s Huikang Huang at a press conference in Cancún, in reference to the Kyoto Protocol. “There must be a second period. Without this element there will be no balance.”
Huang’s comments come as the nearly 200 delegates gathered in Cancún prepare to decide how to move forward after the binding Kyoto Protocol expires. Officials over the past week have held meetings on which key climate issues will be decided on at the concluding session of high-level ministers next week. The USA did not sign the protocol so it means nothing.
Of course the Chicoms want the west to tie itself in knots over energy production. The weaker the west the better for them (or so they believe). They don’t want a crash - that would be bad for bsiness - but the continued downward spiral is fine with them as they think they come out ahead in the long run.
China is exempt.... why should anyone listen to them?

Did read a good one on China today. They are going to be in a far worse position in a few years than we ever thought about with their aging population. See, there ain’t nobody jumping the border to get into China.
