SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) A senior Chinese delegate on Friday urged his fellow international officials to extend the commitments of the environmental Kyoto Protocol, which is set expire in 2012 and has been a contentious issue at this weeks U.N. Climate Change Conference in Cancún, Mexico.
If any balanced outcome can be produced in international climate change, there must be a continuation of KP, said Chinas Huikang Huang at a press conference in Cancún, in reference to the Kyoto Protocol. There must be a second period. Without this element there will be no balance.
Huangs comments come as the nearly 200 delegates gathered in Cancún prepare to decide how to move forward after the binding Kyoto Protocol expires. Officials over the past week have held meetings on which key climate issues will be decided on at the concluding session of high-level ministers next week. See MarketWatchs complete coverage of COP16

LOL, freaking scumbag Chinese.
The USA did not sign the protocol so it means nothing.
Of course the Chicoms want the west to tie itself in knots over energy production. The weaker the west the better for them (or so they believe). They don’t want a crash - that would be bad for bsiness - but the continued downward spiral is fine with them as they think they come out ahead in the long run.
China is exempt.... why should anyone listen to them?
“The USA did not sign the protocol so it means nothing.”
The EPA has begun enforcement even though we did not sign it.
I love the Chinese. They are in-your-face ruthless badass. Like we were before we became panzies like the British.
The Chinese will lie to you right in your face, even knowing you know they are lying to you, and they will do it with a smile.
I LOVE this one...
Dear World,
Please continue to hamstring your own energy use so we can continue to guzzle coal at a furious rate and catch up with you and pass you, you moronic dweebs.
Sincerely, Ho Ho Me.
You’ve just got to love these guys, except that as a nation, they are pure evil scum. Other than that, you’ve just got to love these guys!
This from a country that, when they hear a need for tungston batteries, goes right out and builds a new factory, kills 30% of the labor force in the mines and sells it to us for a penny?
THAT China?
They have begun even worse - it is the policies these nut cases represent that are now running the place that hurt the most.
Ah but of course, they are not bound by it!
Did read a good one on China today. They are going to be in a far worse position in a few years than we ever thought about with their aging population. See, there ain’t nobody jumping the border to get into China.
I can’t blame China for this stance...after all, they don’t have any ‘skin in the game’.
Two sided sword.
Any thing that weakens the western culture strengthens the Chinese culture.
Weakening the western economy means less exports for China.
True. But if we transfer our wealth to third world nations through cap & trade type policies those nations can buy more ChiCom products.
Put out your wild coal fires band do the world a favor.
Yeah, nice try. They had their chance, and decided to play hardball. Now they’re going to have to play on a slightly closer to level playing field. Thanks E.
