The United Nations has asked world leaders to stay overnight at the climate change summit in Copenhagen, as the talks become increasingly fraught.
Stavros Dimas, the European Union Environment Commissioner said that heads of state will be expected to stay another 24 hours in Copenhagen.
"The Secretary-General of the United Nations (Ban Ki-moon) has asked people not to leave tonight," he said.
But he remained confident that leaders would eventually reach a deal.
"I cannot imagine 120 leaders going back to their countries with empty hands. Everyone expressed commitment to fight climate change. OK, do it," he said.
It is looking increasingly unlikely world leaders will be able to agree a political declaration to stop global warming.

But wait, according to
the al-Reuters News Agency:
The United Nations denied asking world leaders to extend their stay in Copenhagen because of deadlock at a U.N. climate summit meant to end on Friday.
Earlier, European Union Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas had said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had asked people not to leave on Friday night. United Nations spokeswoman Marie Okabe said this was not the case.
...I guess it is a little "confused" over there...

Total meltdown.
Any "deals" brokered at this point will be done out of desperation and will surely be total crap.

Obama is begging the Chinese to take our money, so they can build more missiles to kill our sailors. Brilliant.

They can't go back with “empty hands” and empty heads. These crooks are shameless and ought to be rounded up down the road and shipped off to some idyllic paradise like Zimbabwe as their reward for their deceit. BTW, I am sure that the Amish there will justly reward their inability to garner them free money.

United Nations undersecretary Hosie Rociwellor denied reading that a deadlock was the cause of the decision to ask people to leave Friday when Obama had clearly gone off record saying he was on-record about this. Rahm Emmanual was quick to point out that this was an absurd rumour that was apparantly backed off of on Thursday by an increasingly despondent Pelosi. Tom McKile, from the Washington Post, has confirmed that this is unconfirmed as of next Tuesday, unless things change.

I'm guessing that some sort of Health Care fiasco will pass, since the Dems are so desperate -- but I do begin to have
a little hope that Obama will completely fail on that one as well.
The guy turns everything he touches to crap.

Obama doesn't have the courage to do what Reagan did at Reykjavik: leave without a deal rather than sign a bad one. I don't want Obama to have a piece of paper promising "Cooling in our time".
