BOSTON (CBS) — So many times has Jessica Shepherd helped others, says her mother: as a flight crew chief for Marine helicopters in Iraq and more recently at Costal Carolina ...

Now, Jessica has a rare and aggressive form of esophageal cancer; tumors have fractured her spine and she needs a private flight to Boston for treatment because she could not stand the vibration of a helicopter or a regular commercial flight.

...

The family was in the process of setting up a web site and a fund for people who want to help. Until then, relatives said anyone who wanted to help could send an e-mail to jessicashepherdfund@breakoutpr.com or call 617-942-1560.

Prayers being said. Later today I will look more into how I can write letters, or otherwise help in some way. May God bless all of you with courage, strength, and peace during this incredibly trying time. I pray also for Jessica’s health, and of course that a way will be found for her to get the help she needs.

Westbrook,

You and your family must get aggressive yourselves! Reject this cancer and this diagnosis in Christ’s Holy name. Those of you with strong faith must lay hands on Jessica and annoint her with oil. Believe she will be healed and she will. God has given you the power to heal in his name but you must have faith.

James 5:14-15 ASV

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.

My pastor’s daughter had an inoperable brain tumor. They discovered it when she had a car wreck after her vision went black. She was told she’d never leave the hospital and to get her affairs in order. Pastor and his family laid hands on her and rejected the brain tumor in Christ’s Holy name. They did this every day for many days. When the results of her next MRI and CAT scan came in, the doctors thought they had the wrong patient’s records. There was no evidence of that tumor. Then the doctors thought they had misdiagnosed her in the beginning and went back to examine her first MRI. It was her brain. There had been no error. Every one of her doctors said it was a miracle, even those who were not believers.

The faith of a mustard seed can move mountains. Get aggressive in your faith. All things are possible through Christ. Not some things, not a few things ... ALL THINGS!

Updated news story here ...

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2010/12/06/donor-pays-for-ma-marines-flight-to-boston-for-cancer-treatment/

The real battle begins now that she is home.

Latest update from my sister ....

Hi Everyone,

I’m happy to report that Jessi is home!!!!! We had some trouble escaping from the hospital in Jacksonville but we made it. The ambulance people just came in and swept us out of there. Some day I will give you the story of our last day in NC. I’m sure that some day we’ll even be able to chuckle about it (a little). The minute we landed in MA, I could see that Jessi felt better. The air ambulance ride was uneventful although Jessi was on oxygen and had to receive a blood transfusion during the flight. We landed in Bedford at 5 PM which could have been challenging but the ambulance personnel were wonderful. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our personal angel, Laurel Johnson, who donated the trip so that our daughter would have a fighting chance to figtht this dreadful disease. Our family can never thank her enough for her kindness. We hope that some day we are in a position to pay it forward.

The doctors at Dana Farber and Brigham & Womens Hospitals are phenomenal. They are so upbeat and encouraging. They don’t deny the seriousness of our plight but they make us feel confident that everything that can be done, will be done and as quickly as possible. That is such an uplifting gift for people with such faint hopes.

On Thursday at 1:30 we will have an evaluation meeting with a team of doctors. My understanding is that they will determine whether Jessica is a good candidate for a clinical trial that is being done on adenocarcinoma at Dan Farber. Please send good thoughts and prayers our way so that she might be accepted into this trial. We feel this trial is Jessi’s opportunity to receive the most cutting edge treatment. And anyone who knows Jessica knows that if she’s is given the proper tools, she will fight this cancer with everything she has.

We’re just taking baby steps now. Small goals. One foot in front of the other. Day by day.

Please think of us on Thursday at 1:30 and pray for us whenever you think of it.

Jessica has been moved to the ICU at Dana Farber due to abdominal bleeding.

They are trying to stabilize her for surgery to stop the bleeding.

Jessica did not medically qualify for experimental treatment, and she is too weak for any kind of chemotherapy.

It’s going to take a miracle to preserve her life.

Thanks for all your prayers.

Jessica remains in Brigham and Women’s hospital.

She had regained enough strength for them to risk surgery to reconstruct her spine at her neck. A part of the tumor there was removed, and a steel rod was inserted to replace the compromised vertebrae.

We are hoping that she will be able to regain her sensation and strentgth in her arms, as she has said she just wants to hold her baby again.

Please continue to pray for a miracle, that she would be completely cured of the cancer and be able to see her baby son grow up.
