Until last week, former Mayor David Dinkins said he'd never seen Rep. Charlie Rangel, a dear friend, become emotional in public.
"But he's never faced anything like this," Dinkins told the Daily News on Sunday outside a Harlem church where local leaders gathered to urge mercy for Rangel.
Rangel choked up and wiped tears from his eyes on Thursday before a House ethics panel recommended he be censured for a host of infractions. It's a severe punishment that involves a public shaming before congressional colleagues
"It was painful" to watch, Dinkins said. "I love him. He's my brother."
Dinkins added, "Please understand what has happened to this great, proud man. He has been humiliated. He really was, and he withstood it as well as any human can and now the issue in my mind is 'Should he be further penalized?'"

We would go to jail.
All he gets is a public “shaming.” Yet that is too much for a liberal to take.
I don’t get it.
Agreed. What exactly does censure do aside from Congress just saying "Ok you suck but you can keep your job."
WHY?? Because he’s BLACK?? The BEST thing that SHOULD have happened, in a fair world, was for his voters to vote AGAINST him and elect someone else!! FOOLS!
Time Mr. Rangle deals in the real world IMO.
Note to Dinkins:

These Leftists savage every conservative just for being Republican, when they haven’t done anything wrong...
quit crying
Hey...I am humiliated by Rangel being a Congressman!!
I’m amazed no one has played the “treat of violence in Harlem” card.
that threat would be a treat!
So, if a politician friend of mine uses the N-word on TV, I can say, “Don’t censure him. I love him. He’s my brother.” And I expect black folks to do what I ask, right?
These Leftists savage every conservative just for being Republican...
or tapping their foot in the men’s room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From one incompetent NYC democrat to another.
It is not only humiliating for us all, but it is destructive all around. Why should any of us “obey the law” when the ruling class ignores it all with impunity? When this guy’s unbridled arrogance let him tell people, “It’s none of your g—d— business” when he was questioned about it in the first place, censure is nothing near what is needed. I noticed your tag line and you might appreciate a song entitled “A Dream A Lot Like Mine” which you’ll find at this link http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5740209
Blacks want to hold Rangel to a lesser standard. Gee, why am I not surprised?
If he was a white Republican, he would have been drummed out of the House years ago.
Maybe it’s because it’s the first time Dinmkins has seen Rangel sober.
"The attendant."
