WOODSIDE, Calif. 1960s songbird Joan Baez is "resting comfortably" at an undisclosed location after falling 20 feet to the ground from a treehouse - a treehouse she purposely had built without walls because she wanted to sleep among real birds at her Woodside, Calif., home. You can’t judge Joanie until you’ve heard her sing. Thanks to your Joanie post I could hardly stop listening to youtubes of her.
Very nice. I remember that double album of hers that was just Dylan songs.
LOL..cute...
LOL..cute...
That's true. But at least she doesn't sleep hanging by her feet in a cave like Nancy Pelosi does.
LOL! I can’t tell you how THRILLED I am that Pelosi remains the FACE of the Democrat Party. Woot! Woot!
How STUPID are these people? Pretty darn! :)
Agreed. I can’t stand her politics but I love her music.
Another story posted earlier said that she fell when she was climbing down from the treehouse, so the fall was probably considerably less than 20 feet.
“He said he had never seen the Forum empty out so fast as when Baez too the stage about 1/3 of the way into the concert. The bathrooms & food vendors were overwhelmed.”
I never liked her voice. It is an awful high pitched vibratto that grates on your nerves. I am not sure how anyone can listen to her except for one song, Diamonds and Rust. However, I always thought her persona was embellished and publicized by Bob Dylan who had and still maintains a large following. On her own, she was not very good. Joan Didion’s book, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, has a great essay in it on this hippie, artsy school thingy that Baez had in the ‘70s. She charged a fortune to sit around and rap. Now she is pretending to be a bird. Cuckoo!
To quote Leo Kottke's little son,
"I didn't know that was her face!"
“So much better than ‘not bad’. Commie or not, Baez’ voice is a fine, beautiful musical instrument. This song is one of my favorites.”
That’s not bad, either... ;) Thanks!
I remember meeting Baez a number of times in the early 60’s where she, her sister and Bob Dylan used to frequent some of the more seedy Greenwich Village clubs. She and Dylan were a weird, dirty-looking looking duo who had the hots for each other for a while. She had a lot to do with introducing the then unknown Bob Dylan by allowing him to perform at some of her more esoteric concerts. Of the many performers who I met in those days Dylan was among the snottiest of them while she would just sit at an out of the way table with a glassy-eyed stare, ignoring everybody.

I remember Jon Lovitz did a great Howie Mandel.
Speaking of Joan’s contemporaries Janis Ian was the original choice for the part of Carla in “Cheers.” She said no to acting and wanted to stay with music.
Brilliant!!
Dude! Woodside is on Pluto, but that’s no longer a planet, so you’re off the hook. Duude!
Now that is funny. Thank you.
