With the vast majority of write-in ballots counted, both Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Republican Joe Miller looked to Monday when election officials will begin counting thousands of absentee ballots as a key day in their U.S. Senate race.
After about 5,000 write-in ballots were counted Sunday, Murkowski kept up her success rate of winning about 89 percent of the write-in votes outright, plus an additional 8 percent of write-in votes that were challenged but still counted for the senator anyway.
However, officials still have to count about 40,000 absentee ballots this week, according to the Alaska Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai. That figure includes several thousand absentee ballots with write-in votes that have not been counted yet.

Do we even still live in America, where the rule of law is supreme?
The numbers are very weird.
In the 2000 census there were 464,000 Alaskans over the age of 18.
In November 2010 there were 494,000 registered voters!!!
These numbers are approx; I had the links and lost them. Will try again.
The article says that there are “thousands of absentee and write-in ballots” still to be counted. That’s because they still haven’t finished counting the write-ins cast on election day. Since they have consistently counted over 90% of write-ins for Murkowski, I have to assume that whatever number of election-day write-ins are yet to be counted will net Princess Lisa 90% of those votes (Miller has gotten very, very few write-ins, as was to be expected).
I think that we need Miller to outperform HUGE on absentee ballots, and even then he would need to get the courts to throw out ballots marked for “Lisa Merkowski” and “Lisa Murkowsky” and such. I am even less optimistic about the second factor as the first. I really hope that I’m wrong here.
If we just ignore laws long enough we will become like south of the border. As far as I can see rule of law is the main reason this is a better place to live. At least when we are ruined I guess the illegal immigration issue will go away.
Afraid not. Laws are changed on a dime for benefit of those who have no qualms about breaking it. :(

This article makes clear that the number so far point to Princess Lisa keeping her scepter. http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/murkowski-victory-within-reach/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+OTB+%28Outside+The+Beltway+%7C+OTB%29
Thanks a lot, Alaska RINOs.
Not sure how to interpet those numbers as they seem totally out of context to others we’ve seen. I don’t know if things have change or the writer is not understanding the process and what’s left to count. Keep in mind that UOCAVA ballots are coming in and the question is are they being counted with all the others. The Nov. 17th date is the last date they can be accepted for counting in the election. I’m not sure they are waiting till the last minute to count those that are arriving daily.

The above link shows the registered voters as 494,876.

Population quick facts for July 1, 2009.
This statement by Politico that there are 40,000 absentee ballots to be counted hits me as incorrect. From absentees already counted, Miller piled up a pretty good margin. If 40,000 are still to be counted, this could mean 8,000 net for Miller and even more. In other words, enough to beat the projected undisputed votes + disputed but counted votes for Murcowski. This would put Murcowski into the position of trying to get some of the disputed but not counted votes counted by the courts (which is how Frankin got elected). I suspected that the figure 40,000 absentee ballots refers to all absentee ballots including those already counted or to absentee ballots not yet received only some of which will trickle in by the deadline (having been mailed by the deadline). If this is the case, the undisputed vote for Murcowski will be about the vote for Miller and, if necessary, certainly the courts will accept enough of the disputed but counted votes for her to win. So, we now know what miracle we’re hoping for. It’s 40,000 uncounted absentee ballots putting Miller over the top.
It is good news....let us pray that Miller kicks her down with all the cheating that has happened and I certainly hope this is put out far and wide.
I hope you’re right and Miller can pull it out with the absentees.
Those were among the links I found;)
Just a quick tabulation shows the 2009 population of Alaska over 18 is around 530,000 and they have almost 500,000 registered voters??????????????????
I find that very suspicious!!!!!
That’s a witty nickname for this travesty of hers.
How can there be 40,000 Absentee Ballots still out? I read this weekend that there were 22,000 to be counted PLUS the Overseas Military Ballots. I know there are not 18,000 Overseas Military Ballots out. In the last Prez Election only 13,000 Military Ballots went out.
O.K. SeattleBruce, give me your opinion here. Let’s say that they count 97% of the 98,000 write-in votes for Lisa Murkowski. That is a total of 95,000 votes. Joe already has 89,000 votes; right? So, he would only need a 6,000 vote differential margin out of the Absentee Ballots being left to be counted, in order to win; right?
Last night on Geraldo he really belittled Miller BIGTIME. I was so mad....
O.K., this article did not mention the Overseas Military Ballots to be counted on November 17. What really ticks me off is now, Murkowski wants the votes counted for her that do not have the oval colored in. ALASKA STATE ELECTION LAW SAYS THAT MUST BE DONE FOR THE VOTE TO COUNT; NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE!!!
