New Delhi: The White House will, of course, stay in Washington but the heart of the famous building will move to India when President Barack Obama lands in Mumbai on Saturday.
Communications set-up, nuclear button, a fleet of limousines and majority of the White House staff will be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit that will cover Mumbai and Delhi.
He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea.

I looked up the US Navy Fleet size and found that it listed 286 ships.
Can someone PLEASE tell me WHAT is SOOOOOO important that makes this ridiculously extravagant trip necessary??? If it’s SOOOOO dangerous, why bother going?

Though it was a private visit that saw him tour the Jim Corbett national park, some cities in Rajasthan besides getting a feel of Old Delhi, his trip was seen as an indicator that White House was seriously planning a Presidential visit.
In this context, the bilateral strategic dialogue in Washington in the first week of June assumes significance. While External Affairs Minister S M Krishna will be leading the Indian delegation, he will be accompanied by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Science & Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao too will be there to hold talks with US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns.
This is the first round of the dialogue, which was first agreed when US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited India, but now the focus will clearly be on the deliverables for the November visit. It is learnt that National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and his US counterpart Jim Jones have also been in regular contact over phone. Menon is also expected to visit Washington soon.”

So, its about 8.5% of the fleet?

The 34 warships are for the thug’s protection (as per Drudge). This so called CIC aka POTUS should spend some time with our military to learn about having “guts”. Maybe I’m out of the loop but have we been told exactly WHY he is going? I know he promised his kids a trip to Indonesia that had to be cancelled previously. This trip seems WAY over the top.
