Chris Coons changed his previous position on the Bush era tax cuts this morning telling me that he would support extending all of the tax cuts for everyone for "several years."
"I am committed to extending the Bush tax cuts for 98 percent of Americans for everybody making up to $250,000, but I would extend them for everyone," the Democratic candidate for Delawares Senate seat told me on GMA.
"Id be willing to extend them for several years for all Americans, of whatever income if that also allows us to reach a bipartisan compromise that makes real progress in offering tax relief to small and medium businesses, to the home office exception, to research and development," he said.
That contradicts President Obamas position and Coons own campaign website, which states High-Income Bush Tax Cuts Should Expire on Schedule.

Coons will quickly “revisit” that new position if he staggers to victory.
C’mon Delaware, you can put this guy away. Don’t fall for it!
“Its funny how the conservative message consistently sells and yet the RINOs say the party should move to the left....”
Exactly.
"I'd be willing to extend them for several years for all Americans, of whatever income if that also allows us to reach a bipartisan compromise that makes real progress in offering tax relief to small and medium businesses, to the home office exception, to research and development," he said. That contradicts President Obama's position and Coons' own campaign website, which states "High-Income Bush Tax Cuts Should Expire on Schedule."It probably contradicts plenty of other Coons campaign speeches made up until. Thanks Qbert for topic and this great comment:
Hhmm...why change your position if this race is supposedly such a blow-out in 'blue' Delaware?
Coons hasn’t changed his position. He’s merely lying about his position.
“Christine must be gaining on him, causing the Bearded Marxist to shift right.”
Glenn Reynolds is on this story too. http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/108334/
UNDER PRESSURE: Coons Shifts on Tax Cuts for Wealthy: Extend Them All. Chris Coons changed his previous position on the Bush era tax cuts this morning telling me that he would support extending all of the Bush era tax cuts for everyone for several years.
UPDATE: Reader M.L. Johnson writes: If nothing else, ODonnell has pulled Coons to the right on this issue. Maybe any generic Tea Partier could have done the same. The weight of the electorate is tilting the playing field, just like its supposed to. I just hope it stays tilted.
And reader Chris Woods writes: Do you suppose that all the folks bellyaching about the ODonnell primary win can see it as something other than Quixotic now? Had the Tea Party gone along with the Republican establishment whichever candidate that won would have been a no vote for extending the Bush tax cuts. By standing in ODonnell for Castle the Democrat has been forced to flip. No such flip would have occurred with Castle as the opposition. Castle and Coons would more likely have found themselves in substantial agreement on the matter. As I see it the ODonnell candidacy even if it be doomed has had more policy import than Castles ever would have.
Plus, DaTechGuy wonders: If ODonnell is such a sure loser, why is Coons flip-flopping all of a sudden? The MSM has been making fun of Christine ODonnells debate performances for the last three days. Yet this morning, after Delaware voters saw those same debates that the MSM laughed at it is Chris Coons NOT Christine ODonnell who feels compelled to change positions. Its after voters saw the debates. Its also after Coons saw his tracking polls . . . .
ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Dean Gay quotes Milton Friedman: Its nice to elect the right people, but that isnt the way you solve things. The way you solve things is by making it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right things. Heh. Indeed.
“Coons hears footsteps.......... “
So does karl rove, I would venture to guess. He stands to lose face should Christine O’Donnell win.
Ok, I have to ask because can’t find the answer... why is he the “bearded Marxist?” He’s clean shaven from the pics.
Back in college he wrote a paper how when he returned home from a semester in Kenya he had gone from a Reagan Republican to a “bearded Marxist”.
Of course he has been clean shaven for years.

“Ok, I have to ask because cant find the answer... why is he the bearded Marxist? Hes clean shaven from the pics.”
A clever deception...
Those polls from TCJ are interesting, how come those polls don’t make it over the Real Clear Politics averages. They use DailyKos polls over there all the time. For example there is one for Ben Quayle’s district that has changed their forecast because it’s the only poll.
Surprised that the MSM isn`t flooding the airwaves with bogus polls showing her down 25 points etc, so what`s up??
Quick, tell all of the leftist voters in Delaware that all of the choices are for tax cuts, so there’s nobody to vote for! To all leftists in Delaware: Don’t vote on November 2!
Kenya? Is that where he met the other Marxist?
(Rove) stands to lose face should Christine ODonnell win.
Think how bad he loses face if she only loses by a few!
(we should send this to Christine's campaign :-)
Bump! Thank you for your hard work.
“Hhmm...why change your position if this race is supposedly such a blow-out in ‘blue’ Delaware?”
Exactly what I was thinking. If you’re so far ahead in the polls because Delaware voters love the dem policies, then be proud and stand by them!
