Can’t Take Their Eyes off Her - The Christine O’Donnell phenomenon
Weekly Standard ^ | 10/16/10 | Fred Barnes

. . .

The CNN debate was the “tipping point,” O’Donnell told me. This was before the new poll showed her gaining on Coons. “We shattered my opponent’s glass jaw,” she says. “You’re going to hear the glass falling on the floor.”

She won’t be lacking for money. Since the primary, she’s raised $4 million, enough to pay for “tougher” TV ads attacking Coons. “I believe he’s gotten a free ride so far.” Indeed he has. As a college senior, he wrote about being “a bearded Marxist.” It was a joke, he says, and the press has accepted his explanation at face value.

O’Donnell’s life has been scrutinized far more aggressively. It was discovered she had dabbled in witchcraft as a teenager, and reporters took this revelation seriously. So did O’Donnell in her first ad. “I’m not a witch,” she said. “I’m you.” The ad was controversial, but it more or less put the issue to rest.

Now we’re about to see “a whole new Christine O’Donnell,” she says. New or not, we’ll see a lot of her. She’s a political star, a celebrity, and the press can’t take its eyes off her.

I’m disappointed that not everyone here loves her as much as I do. If not love exactly, every conservative should be 100% with Christine.

The O'Donnell critics here on FR can't seem to get it through their heads that Castle lost and that it is now either Coons or her.

Instead we have to hear over and over again how unqualifiied she is.

She is certainly more qualified than Coons-anyone is.

Points taken. For me it’s just refreshing to see a candidate from that part of the country willing to stand their ground on conservative principles. I also have a sneaking suspicion the polling data on the race is heavily skewed in favor of her “bearded marxist” opponent. I hope the people of Delaware can come to their senses by Nov 2. Just a hunch, but I think they might.

Very excellent post. A very articulate defense of Christines record.

Amazing how much time you O'Donnell critics will waste coming on these threads.

The next Senator will either be her or Coons-that is the only choice.

I still remember all the “Christine” threads when she was a long shot in the primary. The press fired their arsenal of howitzers at her, but now she is becoming a star. I wouldn’t pick against her. She’s spunky.

If you’re in the general election, you back your candidate. It doesn’t matter anymore who you may want or what their qualifications are, you play the hand you’re dealt or STHU.

I don’t know how people like Rove or the NRSC can lecture us about keeping the face of the party united and then have a self-destructive hissy fit when they don’t get the person they want. If O’Donnell loses, the establishment will hear it and if it’s close there will be hell to pay.

I don't live there
Convince me she has done something...anything..made a difference?
Why does anyone need to do that? Who are you exactly?

fight_truth_decay? You sound a little hypocritical to me.

TCJ poll released tonight of 500 LIKELY VOTERS post-debate:

Coons 50%

O’Donnell 42%

COD now has 82% of the GOP vote, up from 73% in the previous poll and she has picked up the majority of undecideds who are now 50% less than before the debate.

Yeah, I heard her on Mark Levin, too, and it was the first time I’d heard more than a clip or two of her. I was impressed with how clear and focused she was.

Well, since you don’t live here, and can’t vote, you don’t need to be convinced. As if that were possible.

You sound like Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer. And ditch the italics; it’s annoying and pretentious.

GO CHRISTINE!! I’ll be out door-to-door to get votes today.

She is raising much more money than Coons and I frankly, don't think the Democrats are too happy with him.

I believe the arrangement was to have Castle elected, and then have him resign in a year and have Biden's boy put into the office.

That is why I believe Rove was so upset, he was in on the 'fix'.

Well, from my perspective, the women who are standing up and standing firm for conservative values are doing so because the men won't. Women's lib has worked it's ‘magic’ on the men of this nation and they are afraid to take any position and stick with it. Must not offend anyone, political correctness and all.

So if she had experience in a job you approve of you would find her more appealing. What if the job she held was one you had no respect for? At this point in the game, yours is a particularly empty argument. As empty as you say her resume is.

In checking Obama's favorable rating in Del, I was taken to the Huffington Post.

It seems that is where many of O'Donnell's critics are getting their talking points from (Obama is going to Del.to make O'Donnell the postergirl of the GOP nonsense).

Obama and Biden went because Coons support is very weak.

by looking at those group pix, it doesn’t seem to be a success for obama biden coons.

it just helps with “rubber stamp”. and coons looks so short, even in the pix that aren’t photoshopped.

It’s like they were nice enough to come here and give Christine a bunch of great pix for tv commercials.

I heard her on Mark Levin (last night) also. For a few minutes I forgot Mark was even on the air with her. This woman is a force to be reckoned with. I hope whoever runs against Obama in two years has this much focus and energy.

Peeling the onion to the essentials on the choices for US Senator in Delaware:

THE CHOICES

a) Chris Coons.
- Strong resume of raising taxes as a solution to all problems.
- Will support 95%+ of the Obama/Democratic agenda.

b) Christine O'Donnell.
- Strong resume of supporting conservative positions and opposes raising taxes.
- Will oppose 95%+ of the Obama/Democratic agenda.

Additional comment: With the election only a little over 2 weeks away, any attack on O'Donnell may properly be perceived as support for Coons and the Obama/Democratic agenda.
