Can’t Take Their Eyes off Her - The Christine O’Donnell phenomenon
Weekly Standard ^ | 10/16/10 | Fred Barnes

. . .

The CNN debate was the “tipping point,” O’Donnell told me. This was before the new poll showed her gaining on Coons. “We shattered my opponent’s glass jaw,” she says. “You’re going to hear the glass falling on the floor.”

She won’t be lacking for money. Since the primary, she’s raised $4 million, enough to pay for “tougher” TV ads attacking Coons. “I believe he’s gotten a free ride so far.” Indeed he has. As a college senior, he wrote about being “a bearded Marxist.” It was a joke, he says, and the press has accepted his explanation at face value.

O’Donnell’s life has been scrutinized far more aggressively. It was discovered she had dabbled in witchcraft as a teenager, and reporters took this revelation seriously. So did O’Donnell in her first ad. “I’m not a witch,” she said. “I’m you.” The ad was controversial, but it more or less put the issue to rest.

Now we’re about to see “a whole new Christine O’Donnell,” she says. New or not, we’ll see a lot of her. She’s a political star, a celebrity, and the press can’t take its eyes off her.

There is no way I believe she is double digits behind in the polls. If she were Obama wold not visit, and the media would be ignoring this race.

I corrected my analogy of her "running a state" see above..and I want rocket science we have too many losers in there now that can't run anything, never have and pretend to have the skills to do so---its history repeating itself.

Could she not have followed a bio similar to Palin..we don't just go out and start at the top~~hope you are right but if all you guys have is correcting my "running a state" for comment and it's not "rocket science" than..we are in trouble LOL.

Yep, a creepy short breaded commie born with a silver spoon in his mouth is available for you to vote for. He has a pretty large creep factor attached to him, that is, if you like that type of fella?

On a personal note, no one looks attractive if you listen to opposition research. Provide one candidate anywhere that has not been demeaned, degraded and run through the mill. What I am realizing about O’Donnell she is a lot like us... A person that has flaws, struggled to survive, and is finally getting her act together. A perfect citizen candidate. What every politician is supposed to be. Not some rich, law schooled, elitist weirdo molded out of the type that has overrun our capital.

She is qualified because she is the conservative of the three candidates. Are you saying that it is better to have an experienced liberal in the senate rather than an inexperienced conservative? That makes NO sense from a conservative point of view. All senators do is vote, that is it, and the Tea Party wants conservative votes so they supported Christine.

As stated in a previous post, this is not Rocket science, its just common sense. Support the person who is going to support you. In the DE senate race, the person supporting conservatives is Christine, and ONLY Christine.

What she has spent a lot of time doing is trying to make the case, on TV, for “Good”. Trying to encourage people to be good people. Now, it’s hard to determine, precisely, how effective she was. But jawboning people to be good I think is a worthy thing to do.

Coons on the other hand has been poisoning people. His education at Amherst and Yale was paid for with Gore-tex money. Gore-tex uses PFOA a poison in its manufacturing process. Coons makes millions from Gore-tex, he worked at WL Gore for 8 years. Government relations.

I wonder how that might’ve gone.

Chris: Harry, this is Chris Coons from WL Gore. I need a favor. Can you get the EPA and the FDA and whoever else might be interested in PFOA off our back. Sure we know that PFOA has poisoned almost every American, and we really don’t know if PFOA is harmful. Sure, there’s evidence, but it’s not proven. Harry, we make so much money from Gore-tex, that we really would be hurt if PFOA was banned.

Harry: Sure. But one thing. If you ever run for Senate, I get to call you my pet.

No

He was not “born” with a silver spoon in his mouth.

His mom divorced his dad and then married Robert Gore, the inventor of Gore-tex.

What this taught Chris Coons is that divorce creates huge amounts of wealth. It is therefore a good thing.

I have my own state to worry about--so need not support any of them--one good example was given on life support but that was it..the rest are just displeasure with my wanting to find out why she is fit besides being the R and a good person and not evil or a pencil neck lol.

Hope she wins for you.

Well, polls are polls. These polls have been completely missing tea party support. The tea party candidate has always done better than the polls suggest.

So, the polls being what they are isn’t surprising. It’s that the polls are wrong.

Christine is just better, on top of that a “wave” election, and you get a Christine victory.

Christine has 2.6 million in the bank right now. She’s spent 1.3 so far.

So by your measuring stick, Sharron Angle isn’t qualified, or Meg Whitman, or Linda McMahon or Joe Miller? They weren’t politicians either. By your given standard, to be elected to Congress one has to be either a.) A sitting Governor and b.) A career politician to have “experience” as a future Congresscritter.

And why can’t the dinomedia take their eyes of Christine? They may be hoping for a gotcha moment and they want to be there when it happens. So far Christine hasn’t made any significant faux pas, gaffes or tripped over a microphone wire. From what I’ve seen of her she would fit right in here on FR.

fight_truth_decay: “Just tell me why she is qualified...”

Posters HAVE told you, repeatedly, why she’s qualified but you aren’t apparently getting it. She’s qualified, because she believes in such key principles as small government, individual morality, and the rule of law (US Constitution). You are correct that many common, ordinary people would be as qualified as O’Donnell. What’s important is her ideology and willingness to resist the corruption of Washington DC. She’s stood up for her beliefs in the past. That’s a strong indicator she’ll stand up for them now.

She doesn’t have to understand every in and out of being a senator to be qualified. If she’s reasonably wise, she’ll join with other conservatives to make the right decisions when those times come. She’s going to DC to be part of the conservative team—not some rogue agent.

Now let me ask you something. What makes you think most of the politicians we have are “qualified” for office? Could it be the great job they are doing, the way the nation is prospering, etc? O’Donnell is head and shoulders above most of the corrupt, traitorous losers now in office.

The life support and the good not evil are both mine.

Sometimes she’s working on the general and sometimes the specific, but I do think that the overall picture is one of accomplishment. It’s hard to define, but she’s been fighting the good fight.

I think there should be more people on tv saying things like:

“I think that this show is very dangerous, especially to the women’s movement. It’s no wonder people call it ‘Sluts in the City’ because it teaches young women to be whores, basically, to be used by men, to bed hop. And it ignores the fact that you know when you are treating sex like this that there’s shame, there’s loneliness that follows. And I think that the characters on this show are very revealing in that they long for a true relationship. They long for something meaningful in their lives.” [CNN, 6/1/01]

http://thinkprogress.org/christine-odonnell-record/

For one thing, she’s good for the GOP because she’s trained at being on TV.

The libtards ode to Christine O’Donnell

Pardon the way that I stare.
There’s nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak,
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it’s real.
You’re just too good to be true.
Can’t take my eyes off you.

First, where did you see her bio? I found this on zoominfo, dated from when she was running against Biden:

“Christine O’Donnell is a nationally recognized political commentator and public relations consultant. Over the last ten years, Christine has been a regular contributor to programs including Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, CNN, MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews and ABC’s Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. Some of her most recent television appearances include debating the ethics of human cloning and embryonic stem cell research on The O’Reilly Factor, and discussing the effects of drug use on political candidacy on Fox & Friends. She is also frequently asked to comment on the ever-changing dynamics of the 2008 Presidential Election. A devout Catholic, Christine combined her faith with her God given talent working as an independent marketing consultant on Mel Gibson’s breakthrough film The Passion of the Christ. In addition to developing the pre-release marketing campaign and advanced ticketing program, Christine was also the marketing and media director of the book tour for Inside the Passion, the critically acclaimed best seller offering a behind the scenes look at the making of the film. Christine also served as a policy advocate and communications director for Conservative think tank the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), for whom she developed and planned the organization’s 50th Anniversary Gala in addition to her work as ISI’s spokeswoman. As the organization’s spokeswoman, Christine did extensive traveling, speaking to large groups about social issues including abortion, sexuality and other prominent conservative social issues. Her leadership in this role was at least partially attributable to her early work as the Founder of the Savior’s Alliance for Lifting the Truth (SALT), a student based organization whose purpose was to mobilize Christian students on social and moral issues. In 2006, several pro-life supporters encouraged Christine to run for United States Senate in Delaware, where she still resides. After initially refusing, she ultimately decided to run a write-in campaign, which became the most successful independent campaign effort ever run in Delaware. Fresh off her learning experience in 2006, the Delaware Republican Party has rallied its support behind Christine and she will soon be exploring a candidacy for the seat currently held by incumbent Democrat and Presidential candidate Joe Biden. As an unwavering moral conservative, Christine’s politics have garnered her supporters from both sides of the political aisle. She has debated foreign and domestic policy against the nation’s foremost experts and is surprisingly well liked amongst liberal political commentators and bloggers. After being initially out of political favor with the Delaware Republican Party for seizing votes which may have otherwise gone to the 2006 US Senate nominee Jan Ting, her steadfast stance on moral and social issues and continued efforts to be accessible have drawn enough favor with the party to earn her the 2008 nomination. Her nearly constant media appearances and engaging personality have also helped Christine key in to younger voters, a group she feels is necessary to her goal of creating an America with renewed faith in the dignity of human life and families. Christine is also working on a book. By writing Loving the F-Word: Rediscovering Modern Feminism, Christine hopes to share her viewpoints on gender roles in all societies and in a manner which every man and woman can understand outside the context of a rigid debate. She also hopes that by releasing the book as her campaign kicks into high gear, she will gather enough attention locally and nationally to defeat Joe Biden, whose focus on the Presidency has left Delaware citizens wondering whose interests he is really serving.”

Now, what I pull out of all that is someone who is an issue advocate who has proven skill using media to make a difference in the culture. She promoted The Passion of the Christ, a movie that had world-wide impact. She wrote a book that recasts feminism in a Christian framework. She has mobilized a small army of young conservatives to man the trenches in the culture war. There is a powerful, conservative personality driving all that, one that can withstand the enormous peer pressure of life in DC, and that is exactly who we want voting for conservative legislation.

Second, as for starting at the “top,” it is a necessity of the present conflict. Again, I offer Illinois as an example of a quasi-liberal state, where the only way for a conservative to succeed is by bypassing the liberal filtering process, deliberately designed to keep the conservative “riff-raff” out of the higher levels. It is an end-run, a time-proven method used by all the best competition-oriented organizations (the military, football, etc.)

Third, as for rocket science, no, you don’t want rocket scientists. Trust me on this one. I have several family members who were and are real rocket scientists, and they are way too left-brained to make good policy leaders (aka politicians). Geniuses all, can make ion-powered interplanetary engines (really, not kidding), but cannot hear and connect with everyman, cannot see the vision of a future America grounded in conservative values and how to get there, and would never get to the gut truth of legislation and its long-range impact in any reasonable period of time because they would analyze everything at the tree level to death and miss entire forests. Christine can do better than any rocket scientist I know at setting America back on the course prepared for her by our Founders. True, if Reagan were running in Delaware, he would be a better choice. But he’s not. Love the one you’re with.

Let’s make it real simple. Christine O’Donnell has common sense and is rational and logical. Coons has no common sense, is irrational and illogical. Case closed.
