BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana voters chose leaders for various across the state on Saturday.

Some of the bigger races being watched in the Baton Rouge area are:

The Secretary of State's website has more precincts reporting than the WAFB article does. The numbers in the WAFB article appear to be holding. The Lt. Governor's race will probably be Jay Dardenne versus Carolyn Fayard. In the 3rd District, Jeff Landry will be the GOP nominee.

I hope that Jeff Landry will be good. I didn't have time to look at the 3rd district candidates closely. If I were in that district, I probably would have voted for Kristian Magar in the primary, but I never looked closely enough to distinguish between Downer and Landry.

If you are happy to have Mr. Landry, I'm glad to hear it.

Voted for Kristian in the primary, he really was the best man for the job by a long shot, but couldn't get any traction.
Of the two that were left, Landry has a hell of a lot less "Rat" stink on him than Downer (Big time ex Rat).

The race for Lt. Governor will be Fayard and Dardenne. If everyone who voted in the primary votes in the general, Dardenne has a slight lead. The turnout in the general will be higher, so we’ll need to get more votes for Dardenne.

Only 36% voted for Dem candidates. I can’t understand why Dardenne ran, anyway, since apparently it might necessitate holding ANOTHER election for his vacated Sec of State office.

I don't think a Rat stands a chance statewide or in the 3rd district for the foreseeable future, and I mean that sincerely and confidently.

I figured that, but the Lt Gov job is often dead-end. Sec of State has more to do, too. Aside from Blanco, who won the Gov’s office openly, no Lt Governor has succeeded an incumbent via resignation or death since Earl Long in 1939 when he replaced Richard Leche (who resigned due to corruption). I don’t expect Jindal to go to the Presidency, so I figure the only other out would be if he runs against Mary Landrieu in 2014.

I agree with The Cajun that Dardenne probably sees this office as a stepping-stone to something else. Even so, I believe he’ll do a good job.

I hope you’re right about the Rats not having a chance. I believe that we’ll lose the New Orleans seat, so retaking the 3rd district will keep our contribution to Congress even.

I myself have been thinking about Jindal challenging Landrieu in ‘14. The governor does need to show he is a strong candidate by winning re-election next year, and by a comfortable margin at that.
