Piece by piece, America being given away
Its too late; itll just have to be stopped in the Senate, Tom, the young male answering the phone in U.S. Rep. John Boehners (R-Ohio)Washington D.C. office, said about HR 3534 (CLEAR Act). This is the globalist bill designed to give away our land, oceans, adjacent land masses and Great Lakes to an international body, and makes us pay $900 million per year until 2040.
HR 3534 is a thinly disguised permanent roadblock to American energy which drives American companies out of the Gulf, delays future drilling, increases dependency on foreign oil, implements climate change legislation and youth education programs; but most important, it mandates membership in the Law of the Sea Treaty without the required two-thirds vote to ratify it in the U.S. Senate.
The House passed the CLEAR Act (HR 3534) 209-193, July 30, 2010. This bill was originally introduced July 8, 2009, but was resurrected by the recent Deep Water Horizon oil spill crisis. According to www.govtrack.us, a debate may be taking place on a companion bill in the Senate, rather than on this particular bill. This bill was read for the second time Aug. 4, 2010, and placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders, Calendar No. 510. No official Senate Bill number exists as of yet.

Of course they are when the concept of market demand is considered. It's a matter of economics.
Automobiles and airplanes are far more efficient in supplying what the market demands. The fact that the iron horse may be more efficient in supplying a service that is not in great demand is irrelevant.
There is also a difference between price and cost. The train may have a cheaper price, but a higher cost in time:
LA to Chicago (buying the ticket today to leave today):
Amtrak
Duration: 42 hr, 15 min
$287.00
Southwest Airlines
Duration: 4 hours
$391.00
I don't know about you, but 38 hours of my time is worth more than 96 bucks. And I don't have to buy food on a four hour flight.
Not only that, but SW has eleven flights today, while Amtrak has one!
(One departure, not one flight. BTTF reference)
Game-taking laws do not violate the second amendment - they do not infringe upon your right to keep and bear arms.
That was one reason that the automobile was developed, the trains were not working out.
Nonsense.
The "horseless carriage" was developed to replace horse drawn wagons.
Passenger trains thrived well into the automotive age, especially for long distance travel.
That role diminished when WW-II aircraft production capacity was converted to civilian production.
But 50 years later, aviation fuel is less abundant and becoming more expensive. That makes passenger rail's fuel efficiencies the better option on short, regional trips between 100 and 500 miles in distance.
Treaties do NOT supercede the Constitution. Period.
The fact that the iron horse may be more efficient in supplying a service that is not in great demand is irrelevant.
Amtrak heads for ridership record in 2010, chief says
Train ridership between Vancouver and Seattle exceeding expectations
Metro ridership spiked on day of Glenn Beck rally (510,000 riders)
Passenger rail is a growth market and demand is increasing.
Lobbyists for the Airline and Highway industries are in denial.
Free Republic just can't seem to get its collective mind to accept this truth.
.
SP Alert, too.

If Boehner was really serious about reducing our dependence on foreign oil, he would be pushing Karl Denninger’s suggestion of building new nuclear power plants on US military facilities in all fifty states, to be operated by the US Navy. Local NIMBYs and politically connected energy cartels could do absolutely nothing to stop it. It would cost a lot less than the bailouts.
blah blah blah TRAINS blah blah blah TRAINS
Excellent idea. Are the nuclear plants in ships and subs scalable, because they have an outstanding safety record.
Record ridership does not necessarily mean that the public wants rail over air/highway.
Vancouver to Seattle is an example of the niche where rail might be successful: too short for air travel and a bit long for a car ride. I say remove the subsidies and let the market decide.
Glenn Beck rally was a one off event. Irrelevant.
An end run around the Constitutional treaty process to be part of LOST? It sure looks like and should be a US Supreme Court zot.
Does anyone realize we have been following this treaty since the Ronald Reagan era REVISIONS? The reagan administration objected to the first version of the treaty and that was scrapped and a second produced.
It also contains a provision where the USA can stipulate than all thier disputers will be arbitrated IN the USA with USA arbitrators.
Obama's fecklessness has and continues to embolden and incentivize our adversaries.
Only 40 days left before we put much of Dems/Obama's crap in check.
Lets hope they are up to the task.
This is why we are all running scared when we are dependent on rinos. This is also why they have to go.
I vaguely recall it was around. But certainly no large hue and cry on this one.
Embarrassing.
“Free Republic just can’t seem to get its collective mind to accept this truth.”
Crazy isn’t it? Government gets bigger we get deeper into debt no matter who is in office, but some how people think that if we just elect the right group of Republicans, it will be different this time.
