Reagan wanted to abolish the Dept of Education. Nobody’s brought it up since then.
Hot diggety dog! Time to frog the Federal fabric!
Finally, a Republican on the attack, actually willing to call for the reversal of the welfare state, rather than simply manage it growth, trying to slow it down, etc.
All that is playing defense, you can’t win if you don’t ever go on the offense.
Crazy, I say just nuts./sarc
Not bad - and he’s being coy about 2012, VERY SMART. You want people to want you to run...then you run (not the other way around). If he keeps this up, he’s a look for 2012 - if he really does want the top job.
That’s exactly where this debate needs to move - which agencies and departments to shut down within the first 90, 120, 180, 365 days. We simply can’t afford it all, nothing to debate on that aspect of it anymore.
DeMint is a true patriot!
Sounds like reasonable...doable..Tea Party objectives..
Dear Senator DeMint:
Here’s my suggestion for the first law to be passed by the 2011 Republican Congress:
“Congress shall not impose or enforce any individual mandate.”
Thank you.
Sounds good to me. The states themselves should be in charge
of a lot of that stuff for the folks who live within their
borders!
Keep on saying it, DeMint.
Take power away from the federal behomoth and return it to the states.
Every conservative should be preaching this.
I think DeMint is running for POTUS. That works for me he is a darn sight better than Huckabee or any of the other wanna bes and for God sake Newt. Stay out of it. You had your shot...keep teaching but don’t run the media will crown you and we will have a McCain redux with the media picking our canidate.
I aint going down that road again...
Freegards,
Lex
God bless you Jim, and may He keep you safe.
Go, DeMint, Go! In a time of excessive debt, we should start by slashing the DOE, the EPA, NPR, the NEA, PBS, DHS, etc.
Tell the people we can pay for that sort of opulence again as soon as we get the debt below $100 million. Until then, that’s all extremely unnecessary.
Realistically, it's probably not going to happen if the Republicans get control of Congress next year. I base that prediction on past performance during the years that Republicans had both houses of Congress and the Presidency.
But there is another way to de-fang the federal wolf that can be done by citizens and elected officials at the state level, whether or not Congress remains in Democrat control: Nullification.
The States will reign supreme, just as was intended by the Framers.
This is what Sharon Angle and Joe Miller are both saying and AFAIK is how O’Donnell leans as well.
Is this all talk or does DeMint have a battle plan?
For example, every company has to tighten its belt during downturns by shrinking their expenses. They do this by consolidating departments(which eliminates some higher paid managers), eliminating noneffective sections, and reducing expenses across the board especially for non-essentials. Almost everyone understands and accepts this, in fact that is just what families do in bad times.
The federal government should follow this example. This means for example, the department of education could be combined with some other department and scrutinized to eliminate unsuccessful programs, and if there are things that the states and localities can do better assign them to a more appropriate venue.
The federal government has become increasing involved in education, but the results seem to keep getting worse(maybe one size does not fit all). It is high time someone took a serious look at why federal involvement has not been more successful, and adjust policies to some thing which works better.
Sheeple get scared when things change too fast, and stating the case as above doesn't sound near as scary and radical as saying we're are going to eliminate the department of education.
If Obama had stated that he was going to make the constitution irrelevant, circumvent congress by appointing Czars, and destabilize the economy by borrowing money to spend hand over fist, would he have been elected?
Republicans need to learn how to frame their issues so that people agree with them at once, then the protestations of the media and cries of radical fall on deaf ears.
WOW. That took some stones to say!
I LOVE the idea! Washington DC has TOO MUCH POWER OVER OUR LIVES, and it is utterly un-necessary. Beyond that, it takes our freedoms and our choices from us, and dictates TO us. That is one of the biggest complaints the people have about the Federal Government.
Good on ya DeMint! You have my support!
DeMint at the head of the ticket, and I will come a’runnin’.
He, or a Conservative of his caliber, would cause me to rejoin the Republicans in a New York minute.
It is principle that holds us together, not party.
