TEHRAN, Iran – The American woman released by Iran on Tuesday after more than a year in prison said she was humbled and grateful to Iran's president for her freedom shortly before she boarded a flight to the nearby Gulf sultanate of Oman where her mother was awaiting her.
Iran freed Sarah Shourd, 32, after a $500,000 bail was paid to win her freedom.

in any case “hiking” around the Iran/Iraq border anything seems like a pretty crazy idea, especially while there are US troops in Iraq and Iran is fighting a terrorist war against the west

Also it is BS that the US did not pay for her release, the Iranians got exactly what they wanted out of the treasonous State dept.
Perhaps I’m a bit biased, but it is difficult for me to imagine this young woman, any young woman, being examined by these people. I hope and pray that she and her companions have learned a valuable lesson from this experience.
Sulaimaniya is very beautiful, as are Dohuk and Erbil. I went to Kurdistan in 2006 and it was nothing like the rest of Iraq. We were able to actually walk in the streets to restaurants and shops with no body armor on.
This was back when Baghdad was just freakin' insane. I was up there in Kurdistan on a business trip as we were standing up some camps and coming back to Baghdad was not easy after that. :)
