Thanks for the link.

Sulaimaniya is very beautiful, as are Dohuk and Erbil. I went to Kurdistan in 2006 and it was nothing like the rest of Iraq. We were able to actually walk in the streets to restaurants and shops with no body armor on.

This was back when Baghdad was just freakin' insane. I was up there in Kurdistan on a business trip as we were standing up some camps and coming back to Baghdad was not easy after that. :)

I still think it awfully strange that these people wandered accidentally into Iran...

IMO, FWIW, free lance correspondents for CurrentTV.

I mean, WTH, you can’t go hiking in the Alps, Rockies, Sierras, Cascades, Andes, Himalayas....but near Iran?

thanks for the info on your impressions of Kurdistan

yes, and I find it difficult to credit the claim at the link that the 4 had no idea they were so close to the border with Iran???

although from reading a few things online about them just now, it seems plausible that they were idiot-lefties-without-a-clue rather than lefties trying to do something adventuresome for journalism by crossing the Iranian border
