Election 2010 surprise: rise of black Republicans
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Sep 08, 2010 | Allen C. Guelzo

Overall, the GOP has fielded more than 30 African-American candidates for federal office, including Ryan Frazier in Colorado's Seventh Congressional District and Vernon Parker in Arizona's Third Congressional District.

And as the economy loses steam, and President Obama's poll numbers sag, the ultimate humiliation in this summer of Democratic discontent is to find Republicans trumpeting 2010 as "The Year of the Black Republicans."

A trend with historic rootsThis trend defies modern identity politics. In the 2008 election, 95 percent of black voters chose Obama. Yet the attraction between blacks and the Republican Party is not so strange as it seems.

For a century after emancipation in 1863, black voters routinely lined up behind the Republican Party as the party of Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator.

Well I’ll pay for 10 one way tickets for Obama on down. They must agree to never return.

Someone ought to put up a website where conservatives could donate money to pay the freight for liberals who are willing to renounce their US citizenship and move to other countries.

Betcha it would be a hit with conservatives and liberals.

I can hardly believe someone in the MSM noticed. How can one ever connect racism with the Teaparty when they hear about this?

Because the racism story is a prefab story from an old play book, it isn't a result of observation or reporting.

My wife builds great websites but this one would need serious financial, legal and tax advise to succeed and protect itself from the lefty lawyers.

Still a great idea.

They want to know what we ALL want to know; what have you done for me lately? Focus there. The past is the past and can not help us except to instruct us in the folly of an all-powerful centralized government and the destruction it can wreak on civil liberty and freedom.

There are generations of black millionaires coming along who are for the first time in history legitimate residents of some of the upper income brackets. Their middle class has been decimated and brainwashed by the left and will not trust us as easily. That much is sure.

But there will be more Conservatives. Let’s not pass water down their backs and tell them it’s raining like the ‘Rats have done. Let’s offer a real opportunity to drop the hyphenated American trap, concentrate on values and character issues you KNOW that so many religious and good God fearing black families want to enjoy and have a seat at the table. I think we need to talk to them straight up; like you would to adult men and women, not children.

Dems treat them like children, trapping them in dependence. Offer that way out and growth might be slower but it will have a firm foundation. They are becoming more aware of it and eventually they will listen to those who are succeeding.

It’s a tragedy what has happened because of the Great Society, but it won’t be undone by us pointing to Lincoln. They will see that the giveaways Zero and his like are offering once again are enslaving and not the way out. Their new emerging upper class and educators will help. There are some good role models. We need to be vocal about that and prove to them that Zero and his troops are the new master, the same as the old master.

I was told that by voting for a black Republican (I voted for Keyes when he ran for President in the Primary) I was the worst form of racist because I voted for an "Uncle Tom"... I was told this by a Professor from a nearby college. It must be true because he has a PHD.

The professor is a moron. (I have a Ph.D. too).

"LOL! Yeah PhD’s are always right about everything. Like that climate GW hockey stick guy (fraud). ;-)"

A conservative economist Professor friend of mine (Who had a PhD as well) Told me the secret meaning of "PhD' is "Piled High and Deep".

He always chuckled when he said it. Never could figure out exactly "what" was "Piled High and Deep" and he only smiled and winked when I asked... ;-)

God willing they will. This administration may be the epiphany moment for so many black Americans. I do believe there is always a silver lining in the midst of the storm clouds and perhaps this will be just that.

It is a fascinating topic, as you say. Herbert Hoover won the black vote handily in 1932, despite losing the election disastrously, and FDR studiously avoided civil rights issues so as not to rile racist Southern Democrats, much to the chagrin of Eleanor Roosevelt and others who wanted action there. All that only makes the Republican-to-Democrat turnaround in the black vote from 1932 to 1936 more surprising, and I’ll be interested to see what you find!

Although I realize you didn’t mean your post this way, it came off to me as more than a little patronizing. How about just talking with people as people, not any particular kind, and letting them decide for themselves what common ground they might have with the GOP.

Here’s hoping that, on November 3, nobody has to read the headline: “Down Goes Frazier!”

Don’t forget Allen West in Florida. He’s raised close to 3 million more than Klein-D and is leading in the race.

Allen is a future bright conservative star of the Republican party.

The West race has other subtle implications. It is a district with a high density of Jewish voters. Will they split with Obama/Democrats because they have had enough, and will it be a one time event or a trend.

Also...

A gallery of African Americans running on the Republican ticket, many I think are Conservative 1st...

See, dems, what happens when you let a few black folks escape the plantation without hunting them down? They start to get all uppity and think for themselves.

November is harvest time and unfortunately the “hands” will be back of the Democrat plantation to help out. There will be fewer but make no mistake, the ones who show up will be there to help massa Democrat.

This is nothing but good for us, for conservatives, and for our country and culture. It needs to be encouraged.

One would think that this is the GOP's plan. But then one sees Meghan McCain throwing Michael Steele under the bus on Imus and calling him a "moron".

btw...she comes across as a giggling bimbette.
