Obama Comes to Wisconsin, Feingold Disappears

By Patrick McIlheran - September 5, 2010

President Barack Obama's spending Labor Day afternoon in Milwaukee at an annual union festival. It's quite a party: Parade organizers were still looking for volunteers to help carry the giant protest puppets of the Earth Goddess and such. Pity, then, that Russ Feingold, the incumbent Democratic senator in a neck-and-neck race, can't hang out with the president.

But Obama and puppetry just aren't the right atmospherics these days, are they?

Feingold, three terms in office and now tied with a plastics manufacturer no one heard of five months ago, will be at Laborfest earlier in the day. By afternoon, he'll have scampered far from Obama, to a parade in his hometown, Janesville, where the General Motors bailout didn't save the truck plant and unemployment is now double-digit. A spokesman said Feingold asked the White House to change its schedule, but you know how these things go.

Ask yourself: If you were an embattled senator, famously progressive and customarily elected by students, unions, peaceniks and others who dig giant protest puppets, and your state was going to be visited by a president who two years ago drew swooning arena-sized crowds of just such voters, do you think you could rearrange your schedule to absorb his magic?

This is the measure of Obama's fall: Even senators who define the Democrats' leftward edge act like he's got cooties.

Hmmm. Feingold must be one of those 10% of Jews who didn't vote for 0bama that I read about here at FR. Obviously a man of his word and deed, Feingold is forced to vote with his feet.

I was wondering "what the hell is a giant protest puppet of the Earth Goddess?". So I Googled it and got this:

“Bread and Puppet Theater” has been doing street theater for decades. Started out pretty inventive (well, it was the 60’s). Have now gone pretty far to the ultra left.

Obama’s so radioactive that even Tammy Bauldwin, the socialist Congresswomen from Madison, won’t be seen with the Obamster.

Democrats are trying to hide from Obama now. What next? Will they finally make my prediction they will try to Impeach him come true? He is being exposed as a Communist more and more.

Well he does have a history of running away from Presidential matters, but this is nothing compared to his Road Runner exit from the Senate in 2006:

(Mr. FEINGOLD) ...To conclude, in our system of government, no one, not even the President, is above the law.

I send the resolution to the desk.

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The resolution will be received and appropriately referred.

Mr. FEINGOLD. Mr. President, I yield the floor. [sound effects not transcribed in the Congressional Record: frantic footsteps, slamming car door, squealing tires]

The PRESIDING OFFICER. Under the previous order, the Senator from Pennsylvania is recognized for 25 minutes.

Mr. SPECTER. Mr. President, might I ask the Senator from Wisconsin to stay on the floor?

Mr. President, I think this subject matter is worthy of debate, but notwithstanding my experience of debating, I don’t think I can debate without someone to debate with. I tried to attract the attention of the Senator from Wisconsin before he departed the Chamber. I think I got in right as he was on the way out the door.

But let me ask his staffers if they would invite the Senator from Wisconsin to return to the floor. Having listened to his long soliloquy, I would appreciate the benefit of his presence so we can deal with these issues in some substantive detail.

-snip-

I am sorry that the Senator from Wisconsin saw fit to condemn and excoriate the President for 25 minutes but doesn’t have time to come to this floor to answer a simple question.

“Obama’s so radioactive that even Tammy Bauldwin, the socialist Congresswomen from Madison, won’t be seen with the Obamster.”

Just the fact that we have socialists in Congress is enough to make my skin crawl. Socialism takes away the rights of individuals to distinguish themselves and to be unique. Ironically, socialism concomitantly allows those parasites who make careers out of government to distinguish themselves from the rest of the populace. It's all about them, the same way that for Marx it was all about Marx, for Stalin it was all about Stalin, and for Mao it was all about Mao. Socialism and communism are the ideologies that make the ego and self-determination of whole nations of individuals subservient to the ego and self-determination of the few parasites who occupy government ‘leadership’ positions.

I have more respect for dirt, as an intellectual entity, than I do for politicians.

Who know’s where Obama will be tomorrow.

He uses the Presidential plane like it flies around for free.

The Kenyan is too much of a socialist for the socialists.

Hopefully, Feingold will completely disappear after November.

Go Ron Johnson for Senate.
