Yes the oil industry and its related components have an ongoing list of events from minor to major with deaths and major injuries. That is the nature of the beast and when you deal with the human element involvement it becomes even more dangerous.

I was only pointing out Texas City and BP because the poster was questioning how long it would take for something to happen there. Fires and explosions happen all over if one is willing to search a bit for the info.

Just this week I-10 just west of Beaumont, Tx was closed both ways from Sunday about 4:00 am until Wednesday about 11:00am because of an overturned tanker carrying isobutane.

That was right before my wife and I moved to Houston. She was an environmental investigator for Galveston County, so had a front row seat to the BP plant explosion in ‘06. I think it was ‘06, maybe ‘07. I didn’t think much of it in terms of the bigger picture so details escape me. She knew someone whose husband died in that one.

But yeah, the ‘05 incident was a big mess. The repercussions of it were still a problem during our stay there. Who knows, maybe it was related to what’s going on now? Stranger things have happened.

No, but after a couple decades in the oil/gas industry both onshore and offshore (mostly on) fires and explosions are just not that rare.

Fire fighting is a major part of the facilities design and training of nearly everyone there. It is the reason the hazardous area classificaion, fire and gas detection and equipment selection that I do every day is important.

We spend an immense amount of effort to prevent, limit and control fires and explosions, but reality is they are a normal part of the industry.

From my viewpoint, expecting an oil rig fire to be the result of a terrorist attact is like expecting every highway accident involving 3 or more vehicles to be an attack.

So you posted asking what was up? Did you not want an answer?

And the answer was exactly what? All I got was an unsolicited smartassed comment. Is that what you 'oil and gas industry experts' consider a proper answer?

So at what point in time...will you admit you are wrong?

I freely admit that I was wrong when I implied that I’m not an expert in this field. I have not had time to study all the links provided in this thread. If they prove that oil rigs blow up every couple of months in GOM I will then admit that I was wrong to state that they do not.

" My guess is environmental terrorism. They've demanded we follow their earth worshiping religion, and we've refused. "

Sounds a lot like O'slamic Muslim religion.

Wellthat post makes no sense. I meant to say that I freely admit that I'm not an expert in this field.

I should also say that if commenting on threads on FR were restricted only to experts in the referced field of the thread FR would be a lonely place.

78% of all statistics are made up! (That's a joke!)

As to my post, I am truly serious. Maybe I'm a bit more suspicious than you, but it does seem odd to me that another incident has happened so closely, in time and space, to the BP explosion.

If they prove that oil rigs blow up every couple of months

Every couple months is a big difference from your initial claim of no way it could ever happen.

Please read at least one link that thackney has kindly provided. That should, if you’re a thinking individual, convince you to take off the tinfoil hat.
