Glenn Beck Rewrites Civil Rights History [Alveda King: Park Police Forewarned, We Just Might Sing]
CNN>COM ^ | August 26, 2010 9:02 a.m. EDT | Willie Bunch, Special to CNN

Posted on 08/26/2010 3:32:54 PM PDT by fight_truth_decay

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- "We are on the right side of history! We are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and, dammit, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement -- because we were the people who did it in the first place." -- Glenn Beck, on his nationally syndicated radio program, May 26.

It is Glenn Beck's most audacious stunt yet: This Saturday, in the company of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the National Rifle Association and others, the Fox News Channel host will stand in the sacred shadow not just of the Lincoln Memorial, but of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. himself, near the spot where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech 47 years earlier to the exact day.

During this event -- billed as "Restoring Honor" -- Beck will aim to "reclaim the civil rights moment" for his cause, and in the process he will continue what he's been doing for the last 18 months: bending the history of 20th-century America like a Philadelphia soft pretzel.

The revisionist message behind "Restoring Honor" is nothing new for the conservative shock jock. In the year and half since President Obama took office, Beck has led his loyal followers on a journey not just to "reclaim" civil rights but much more audaciously to rewrite the sweeping narrative arc of American history from the time of the Founding Fathers forward.

Well in 08 we had other Conservatives and Christians condemning us because we refused to vote for liberal abortion pushing king Williard Mitt Romney...

But lots have changed their mind

either before the election..or after they voted for him

I was told I had gone to the “dark side” that I wasnt a conservative etc...

Romney is getting old and tired now...

He may not make it for 2 more years before wearing himself out...

That Botox cant mend everything forever...

and for hair dye ya need lots of hair...

a wrinkled bald Romney is not going to attract the fickle “ladies” in 2012...

Plus the mortmons said that FRed was TOO OLD at 64 in 2010...

Romney will be older than that in 2012...

Oh noez..

Harry Ried is an ALLY? I don’t think so.
That's so unbelievably stupid and obtuse. Are you trying to be like the MSM, or does it just come naturally to you? Twist and lie, spin and twist.

Of course, you moron, when I say Mormons are our allies, I'm talking about conservative Mormons. The subject of this thread is Glenn Beck, not Harry Reid.

YOU are an ally of Harry Reid if you are making the claim that all Mormons are the same as Reid, just because they happen to be Mormon.

Is that what you are saying?

He must be...

For the love of all that is holy TN Nana, STFU. You start by asking me why I am mixing religion and politics and then you go on about Christ and finish by bashing Mormons again. Get a grip! I did not start this whole stupid thread and discussion. I simply referred to Beck as a good Christian man. I used Christian in the very general, very universal sense; as in: X believes in Christ, therefore X is a Christian by the most base definition of the word.

I never brought the two together. You all started this little Mormon bashing service and have been festering like an oozing boil ever since. You are not going to proselytize to me. You are not going to change the way that I think. You are not going to sway me away from my church, the teachings I have received over the last twenty-five years, or the views that I espouse.

You all may continue this trite and pitiful little display, but I am no longer going to participate in this thread. The only entities I have to answer to are myself and the Big Man. If you are truly concerned for me, say a prayer, but for the love of all that is Holy, leave me alone about the whole teaching garbage. Do you really think I have not heard all of this through my years of Catholic education?

Would those folks who are deign to support Beck put up the same resistance if Beck was a Buddhist or a Taoist or a sun God worshipper?

NONE of these make the claim that they are CHRISTIAN.

If so, we’ve got a long way to go as American Conservatives since it appears that Christian spirituality is a club that only permits those who read the KJV of the Bible.

HUH?

Where do you get your FACTS?

You're assuming that I tow my church's line.

It 'appears' that you do not TOE the line of CATHIOLISM; either.

Why not just JOIN the MORMONs and be DONE with it?

And we jumped in with a very SPECIFIC: No he's NOT!

Why does that upset you so?

MSNBC had al sharpton on this morning. It was a spewing of hate speech and racism. No mention of the legitimate size of the crowds.

They are trying to cover only sharpton in order to morph the lincholn memorial rally as if it was sharptons pro-racism rally.

you should see the spewing talking points.

Howard Dean calling Glen Beck a racist.

the meme is “hungry for leadership” and saying glen beck is just there.

they are not focusing on the content of the message.

Hey Elsie, before you correct my grammar, I would suggest you reference an English usage dictionary.

TOE the line and TOW the line have become equally acceptable usages of the turn of phrase. I have 2 Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree in English; I would suggest you do some research of your own before correcting the language I’ve studied for the last 20 years.

I will no longer stoop to answering your questions on my faith. It’s my faith, and as far as I’m concerned, you discredited yourself as a debater in this conversation when you essentially wiped your ass with my religion.

*spit*

Ok, you all are really on a rip tear this morning.

So let’s play a little game, ok? If you’re a follower of Buddha, what do you call yourself? A Buddhist, that’s right! If you’re a follower of Satan, what do you call yourself? A Satanist, that’s very good! Ok, one more... think REALLY hard about this one: if you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, what do you call yourself? Ok, think about it before answering...

That’s right, you’re a CHRISTIAN! Very good.

Yes, this is intentionally satirical to prove the point that if someone believes in a person and/or their teachings, then they’re followers of that particular faith. I believe in Jesus Christ, thus I’m a Christian. I follow the Catholic creed. Beck follows the Mormon creed. Look up the word creed before hastily blowing off my doors.

Well kid it depends which “Jesus” you are following...

The mormon jesus is not the LORD Jeaus Christ of the Christian Bible...

The mormons say so themselves...

Not the same Jesus
“There are those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints do not believe in the traditional Christ.

No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.”

– LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley (LDS Church News, June 20, 1998)

“It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons.” – LDS publication, Ensign Magazine, May 1977, p. 26
