Jennifer Aniston is in hot water for using a politically incorrect term on Live with Regis & Kelly Thursday morning.
While promoting her flick The Switch, Aniston discussed her recent Barbra Streisand-inspired photo shoot for Harpers Bazaar on the show. "Yeah, I got to play dress up, Jen said to Regis, I do it for a living, like a retard!"
Now, disability advocates are bashing the actress for her word choice.
A rep for the Special Olympics tells Us Weekly, "People with intellectual disabilities have fought their whole lives for understanding and recognition. When people continue to use the R word, it's hurtful."

how old are you 12?
Old enough to use capitalization and commas, Zippy.
What if they ARE retards? Should I call them mice? Brooms? Senators?
Pick one.
I can’t tell you how irrelevant this is. The Left has made every minuscule event a drama. What fools they are.
Brad Pitt is not attractive.
I am offended every time some retard tells me I should be more politically correct.
Being offended is a choice. People make choices about whether or not they are going to be offended by what other people do or say. You have chosen to be offended. I have chosen to continue to use phrases that have lost political favor. If that offends you, then that is your problem. It is your choice.
FWIW "retard" means slow. It is as old as the English language and it's meaning has never changed. People who are slow to learn are retards. I agree with Jennifer Aniston when she referred to herself as a retard. All liberals are retards.
GACK!
Talking is now illegal AND immoral!
No kidding. But that disease has affected Free Republic as well. Did you read all the comments by people who have chosen to be offended by the word "retard"? I suspect they all must suffer from the same mental disorder that affects most liberals who get offended by just about everything that falls anywhere near the edge of what may be considered politically incorrect.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Did you catch this: "People with intellectual disabilities have fought their whole lives for understanding and recognition. When people continue to use the R word, it's hurtful"
The "R" word?
When Liberals use the "R" word they generally mean "Republican". That shows you how retarded they are.
people are different. i know one blind guy, when he goes with friends to a restaurant, and they say to the hostess “he’s visually-impaired” , he elbows the friend and announces “No, I am as blind as a bat.”
I don’t see anything disrespectful about using the terms blind, deaf, crippled, but I suppose if enough of them make it known to me they don’t like them, I would comply with their request as much as practical. But I wouldnt take the word of a professional advocate for it. I think there is a lot of context here that all of us, maybe just me, cant consider
On one level, there is no difference (our souls are equally loved by God, except God favors the lowly), but on another level, of course there is a major difference between a sighted and a blind person. We can do the whole truth justice. Blind is not a bad word.
in professional use, “retarded” cant just mean IQ below 100. I dont know what the cutoff is, maybe 60
i think gifted indicates IQ of 140.
She might be, but she’s also a good actress who can put on whatever face she wants to. She might be very different in private with a man she really loves. Nobody really knows about these things except the people who’re involved in them.
They are all just people. People are people. And people call people names and throw out insults to their friends and their enemies and terms like "retard" can be both endearing or insulting.
But what irritates me is the constant haranguing of the left and even some here on Free Republic to take away the language and to basically remove these terms like retard or moron or idiot or other insulting terms of endearment from the language because "someone might be offended". GASP! The Liberal mindset is to always look for something that might offend somebody else and then claim that offense for themselves. Morons!
The point of these pejoratives is to offend, either in a joking manner or in an insulting manner. It is the nature of language to use it to convey our thoughts, be they clean or impure.
Jennifer Aniston called herself a retard. Big Deal.
Anyone who is offended by that is a retard.
Anyone who is offended by that is a moron.
Anyone who is offended by that is an idiot.
Anyone who is offended by that has a mental disability.
Anyone who is offended by that is a LIBERAL!!!
I am not offended. Sometimes I am embarassed by fellow conservatives. There is a lot of context not being considered. Soetimes we obviously we disagree; other times I would enjoy some good natured razzing. I am not trying to control anyone; it’s foolish, I can’t. Good night sir, and let’s DEFEAT Zero and his congress of thugs this november.

Agreed.
It's both surprising and disappointing to see that kind of perspective here. Creeping liberalism, infiltrating Free Republic. Now that's offensive.
ok Joe. Now what kind of actions of her own was Jenn referring to? Did she use “retard” to indicate that, for instance, she accomplished something great, did a good job, or maybe she created a fabulous outfit? No, she called herself a retard because she did something stupid.
Can you not understand why people who are or have loved ones that are handicapped are deeply hurt and offended when others use that label to say “I did something stupid”. In other words, “retard” means “stupid” to people who use the label in that way.
As I mentioned before, this has nothing to do with being politically correct or trying to limit someone’s already limited vocabulary. This has everything to do with people being so insensitive as to use “retard” as a put-down.
The interesting thing is, I don’t call people with disabilities retards. But, someone who is intellectually stunted just because they are an idiot...well...
It’s always wrong! Always was and always will be.
That’s just not right.
